I turned my truck on this morning before work and realized my Maintence required light blinked a few times then followed by the ! light till my truck turns off. Now its doing it all the time. What could it be? Iam due for an oil change pretty soon but i still got another 1k to go. Could it be my airfilter?!?

Turn the key to the start position but not far enough to start the truck. Hold down the ODO reset button till it counts down.

if you are going 3K between changes the light comes on at 5 this would be perfect because the most recent change just forgot to reset the ligth this would leave you 1K. go out to the truck press and hold the reset miliage button thing and turn the truck to the run but not on possition, you will see the milage flash hold untill this counts down and it should be reset, do this now then start the truck you will know if its more serious.

You changed your oil yourself, or had it done somewhere?

Six replies and no one commented on the second light (!) - low tire pressure indicator?

    To OP:

If the ! light is still illuminated - check your tire pressures, one is low. Depending on your year there also may be a pressure sensor in your spare as well.

If it was serious it would be the check engine light.

If you RTFM, you will see that the "Maint Req" light runs off the odometer. After 4500 miles it will blink on startup. After 5000 miles it will light up steady. Reset procedure is in the aforementioned FM.

The steady (!) light means you have a tire with pressure out of limits. Early 09 and older have 5 sensors (spare is #5). Check your tire pressure. After you set all 4 (5) tires to your desired pressure, reset the TPMS system. How to is again in the Owners Manual. If the (!) blinks you have a system fault and the dealer has to fix.

Having to deal with these lights on a daily basis, I absolutely hate the damn things.

#1 Some cars are a complete PITA to reset the lights. Nissan sucks, their big brother Infinity is even dumber, 2 systems, 2 oil change resets, neither one communicates with the other. Have to reset the light in the odo dash part, then have to reset it in the middle console as well, just dumb. Never been able to reset a Volvo. Honda even has their fair share of retarded resets (Newer CR-Vs), their Acura brand is always a bitch. GMs display I want to punch, their gas pedal to the floor 3 times...ha...

Toyota is alright on this topic. Set it do the odo/trip a, turn key off, hold button, turn key on, lines flash, wait until their all gone. done.

#2 It makes people FREAK OUT for NOTHING. (not referencing the op) I watched a lady in a goodyear freak out on this dude b/c of the light. (His dumbass wouldn't take 2 minutes to go look at this lady's car.)

I walked out, tapped on her window, asked to see the light. Told her turn the car off, I held the button and told her to turn the key on. Light off.

"OMG OMG my maint req light on, WHATS WRONG WITH MY CAR!?!?!?!"

Nothing, when was your last oil change? It's time or someone didnt' reset the light.

When the Maint. light blinks then goes off, it's just telling you that it's getting close to the milage inerval where it'll come on and stay on.Change your oil and rest the light.

The "!" light is a tire pressure monitor. Check and reset your tire pressures and reset that light aswell. Also, check the pressure in the spare tire. If (for some reason) that's low, it'll cause the light to come on.

I change my own oil, and i aired all my tires but not my spare. So i did it and it worked for some reason? Thanks for the advice.
