My dad hates them a lot even though he started his career at Swift and backed up into a parked mini van while he was there





He later moved to Werner, Old Dominion, then Forward Air where he's been for the last 13 years

 

In essence if someone did not hire inexperienced people wouldn't you soon run out of people that could be hired and then eventually not have anyone at all?

 

That’s one way to look at it Obviously their training program is lacking . The last trucking company I drove for would not even interview you without 3 years over the road experience. They also had cameras at the fuel island and pre and post trip areas to make sure you weren’t slacking at your job . You also rode along for 2-3 weeks with one of their top drivers when you are first hired .

It's just something I've always found odd. If no one let's you start out (yes you need good training) then no one can ever acquire the experience needed to get hired. I prefer experience over training when I hire also but I also had openings for low experience people in order to get them up to the point that they then have the experience.

It is scary to think someone who just got their CDL is behind the wheel of the big rig though.

 

Another company I drove for when I was younger is also notorious for hiring inexperienced drivers because you are hand delivering up and down stairs and crap to restaurants ,schools ,hospitals,nursing homes and everything in between ( food ) lot of physical labor on top of driving. Did that for 10 years until physically could not do it anymore . Anyway after 13 years they hired me back supposedly for drop and hook stuff and at the first meeting I attended the fleet manager was reaming guys because in less than a year there were over 200 accidents and the fleet is only about 50 trucks and drivers . I left after 2 months because drop and hook never happened and I’m too old for that other shit . They hired guys with a Class A CDL permit trained them a little bit until they passed the road test then threw them out on their own .

 

It's gonna be a good day folks, I can feel it in my bones....... wait.... that could just be me feeling my age. Carry on and enjoy your day!
