This may just be venting, but I was surprised by my dealership today when I took my Taco in for maintenance and was told the services they were recommending weren't covered.

It turns out that 2016 me wasn't very smart when he bought his extended maintenance warranty and didn't read the Tacoma Warranty & Maintenance Guide. I decided to review it today and noticed something that really bothered me:

For all the called out maintenance intervals they have a section which is the recommended maintenance, then they have a lower section for "Special Operating Conditions". This is defined as "Perform these service items only if you drive primarily under the conditions indicated". Under the routine maintenance they talk about checking and topping off fluids and such, and replacing engine oil and filter. Under the "Special Operating Conditions" they talk about changing Front/Rear Diff oil, Transfer Case Oil, Transmission Fluid, etc. Outside of the "Special Operating Conditions" there is no mention of ever changing these fluids / oils.

If I'm reading the guide correctly, Toyota says that outside of the Special Operating Conditions they do not recommend to change the above oils / fluids? Seems like BS to me. There should be a mileage at which all of the above should be changed out, but it seems Toyota doesn't want to list it to keep from having to pay for it under Maintenance Warranties.

Anyone know what the actual mileage should be to replace the above items?

Disclaimer: I'm currently jaded that I thought I was paying for the 30k and 45k extended maintenance and it's not covered. I need to find my purchase documents to see what else I missed.

Understand the pain as I was there myself. Took it in for 30k service and they wanted me to pay something (many hundreds) to service the transmission and diff...at least that's what I remember, it was a while ago. Same extended warranty.

As for the mileage, I believe it states in the owners manual the recommended intervals, however I do not know off the top of my head. For my dealer they list Toyotas recommended servicing for certain mileage on their site when you reserve a service slot. It's actually pretty helpful to keep track.

Edit: I apologize if this isn't the best answer, but I'd have to search through service records and recommended intervals to get a better answer. As for the warranty info, again, more digging.
