Hello everyone! I’m new to the truck scene I’m looking to buy a 4x4 TRD Tacoma. I live in the city and won’t do any off-road. I live in a hurricane prone area. Do you guys recommend a sport or a off-road? I want to get the TRD package for the looks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the TW herd. I was in the same boat as you. I went with the TRD Sport crew cab. Traded off the stock wheels for some T4R SEMA wheels with Nitto Terra Grapplers. Also removed the front bumper lower valance. Do yourself a favor and pass on the JBL stereo but get the premium & tech packages. I didn't care for the black fender flares on the OR.

I have a 2019. I pulled the original seat covering out and put in Katzkins leather. It is better than the Toyota leather.

    Work in progress...
Off Road has the rear locking differential while the Sport looks great. With traction control standard I am not sure how valuable the rear locking differential actually is? I would love to have it don't get me wrong. If I had to choose I would pick the Off Road model due to function over looks. However, I might buy the Sport again because...just look at it.

If you live in the city, never see offroad, and it doesn't snow...no need for 4x4. IMO.

    Welcome to TW! :hattip:

I personally recommend that you get the TRD Off-Road instead of the TRD Sport, because the Off-Road has a real locking rear differential whereas the Sport has a brake-actuated automatic limited-slip differential; I often refer to the Auto-LSD as a "fake posi".

I personally think the off-road looks way better with the black contrast. If u prefer the look of the sport then go with the sport. If u don’t care for looks maybe consider the SR5 as well.

    There's that, too...

But the locking rear is the big one!

But it sound like he’ll never need 4x4 much less the locker.

That's a good point; My uncle has a low-mileage black 2017 AC TRD Sport 2WD that he says he'll sell me in a few years if I'm interested; The price he gave me makes me willing to overlook the lack of a 4WD and a rear locker!
