    My opinion: High end lubricants Perform to a higher level than budget lubricants. However there is the law of diminishing returns to consider. Do you get twice the protection for twice the price? No.

    After 500 000 miles the difference will start to become apparent. Better compression, better mileage, less oil consumption. But by that point you’ve probably upgraded and moved on, or the rusty frame snapped in half, or electric cars are dominant and gas too expensive to bother keeping it. Or maybe someone T-bones you after 10 years and your pristine truck with its gleaming internals gets tossed in the crusher.

    By the time any of this matters, we'll all be driving government issued self driving Priuses.

    Or, the robots will have taken overo_O

    My OPINION is that at 5K intervals, you'll see little or no benefit from premium oil. If you plan on going 10K or more, it's probably worth the extra money for better additives.

    I went 10K and occasionally more with M1 in my previous 4runner, and it ran beautifully with 257K when I traded it in. This began at 78K when I purchased it.

    Even with cheap oil, these motors will almost certainly outlast the frames and the rest of the truck. THAT is also an opinion:)

    API SN has a dedicated sludge test.
    The Sequence VG/VH just to screen for sludge.

    Surprisingly conveniental oils handle sludge better as it is a more polar base oil. Highly refined stuff GIII and GIV tends to be less polar so it needs more dispersants to handle sludge. Hence why Exxon puts in Ester with its PAO

    BTW I can talk about this stuff forever as I did it for over a decade it is kind of my passion after cars.

    Well I think this thread has finally convinced me.

    From here on out I’m going with 127 mile OCIs with probably Amsoil or Motul. Can never be too careful! After all it’s a Tacoma, not some peasant-driven supercar!
