Wiring harness

Does anyone know if Toyota uses the same wiring harness on every third gen Tacoma regardless of the trim level? It seems as though they would and simply plug stuff in according to the trim package of each truck. Here's why I ask. My side mirrors need replacing and the do not have signal indicators. If I replace the mirrors with ones that do have signal indicators, will the correct plug be there after I get the door panel off?

 

99% of the time the plug and or the wiring is different.

Same connector but most likely empty terminal slot...

 

The "Main Harness" most likely has everything. But they leave out the Secondary harness' on the options not included. In your case, the wire could be missing inside the door itself (from door to the footboard connector).

 

Tesla has reduced its wiring lengths. The Model S uses around 10,000 feet of wiring. The Model 3 gets by with roughly 5,000 feet. The new Model Y will supposedly use roughly 325 feet by using a revolutionary new wiring architecture that uses controllers, or hubs, to control multiple devices.

 

Maybe new to the automotive industry. I see this technology all the time in the industrial controls industry. Not quite sure if I would want that on an automobile?

 

It looks like they are mimicking computers/routers and applying it to the automotive world. Traditional automotive wiring harnesses really haven’t changed in 100 years. Manufacturers actually place the wiring harness in a heated bag prior to installation so the wires and insulation are more flexible and easier to handle.

 

Industrial terminology - Master / Slave. Sometimes the slaves are referred to as Brick's because they don't contain a processor (ECU). The Brick's rely on a comm network to work their magic thus reducing the amount of wiring back to the processor unit.

I've replaced quite a few of the Brick's. And hardly ever need to replace a master (CPU).
