    Last night, I intended to drink at my friend’s band’s debut gig at Chambers, so I got my mom to drive me there; My intent was to take an Uber home, but my friend Jeff was getting ready to leave at the same time I was and he lives like two miles from my house, so I hitched a ride with him instead (Jeff typically has a beer at these gigs when he’s driven himself, so he’s sober when it’s time to go home)...

    Jeff drives a silver 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT that he bought brand new. It was his first brand new car ever, and he loves it! He doesn’t drive all that much, so the car has less than 24K miles. His one grievance about the car is that he bought it the year before backup cameras became standard, and his car does not have this feature. However, the car is about a year from being paid off and he wants to hold onto it.

    Jeff’s car is fairly basic; It has power windows and locks, Bluetooth, and obviously air-conditioning, but it has plastic wheel covers (instead of alloy wheels) and no sunroof. One feature I was pleasantly surprised to find that the car DID have was heated front seats; It was windy and bitterly cold last night, but the heated seat worked so good that I had to turn it down halfway through the drive home!

    Three of my friends drive Hyundais and a fourth drives a Kia Forte; Jeff has the 2016 Elantra GT, and Tom has a silver 2018 Elantra GT that looks virtually identical to Jeff’s (except it has a backup camera, alloy wheels, and I believe a sunroof. My friend John has a black 2018 Santa Fe AWD.

    Hyundai has really stepped up its game in the last decade!

    Also, for a subcompact hatchback, Jeff’s car is really roomy inside!

    I have actually gotten into altercations with people because they decided to park next to the vehicle I was taking pictures of and block my shot, and/or they couldn’t wait a measly couple of minutes for me to finish taking pictures!

    Then, there was the Tony Soprano wannabe in the BMW X5 four years ago (January 2016) who thought it would be a good idea to blast his horn at me in a grocery store parking while I was kneeling and taking pictures of a parked Chevy Colorado Z71 (that the owner had given me permission to take pictures of). He could have easily backed up and given me a break, but the guy in the BMW was too lazy to do this, blasted his horn, and scared the shit out of me. I stood up and got out his way, giving him a dirty look as he creeped past. He said something to me, and as he made a left out of the parking space I saw his window was down...

    I shouted after him “Beemer-driving asshole!” I didn’t call him anything particularly rude; I just called him exactly what he was, and he acted as though I’d told him to go perform a sex act on his mother...

    The Tony Soprano wannabe slammed on his brakes, turned back around, and drove back toward me, and that’s when I figured I’d better go back into the store and take pictures of the Chevy truck later.

    This asshole jumped out of his BMW and attempted to follow me into the supermarket. He was well-dressed, in a suit and tie, and he was extraordinarily fat; He also had a beard and appeared to be in his late 30s or early 40s. He also had a thick New York accent (Hence the “Tony Soprano” reference).

    I was now terrified of this guy at this point and kept telling him that if he didn’t get away from me I’d call the cops. He responded that if I called the cops, he would know where I lived; I had no idea what he meant by this, because the last time I checked, police didn’t just hand out the personal information of a complainant to the person they were calling the cops on.

    Fatso realized I wasn’t going to fight him, ultimately getting in his overpriced German status symbol and driving off; I took the pictures of the truck I wanted, and was commended by people in the parking lot who’d witnessed it for how I’d handled it.

    I still really want to be an HVAC technician, but I'm having some second thoughts about it; Also, working for a company that builds drones (which I currently do) is definitely not boring!

    I'm having second thoughts about HVAC because working at an HVAC contractor seems to be a lot like working at a car dealership; Nepotism runs rampant and you seemingly have to known somebody or be sleeping with somebody in order to get where you want!

    Considering what the HVAC folks down here look like, you should definitely look for other work.

    They're ugly dudes - I wouldn't want to sleep with ANY of them!!

    All kidding aside - if you find something you like and are good at, do it well and make your customer happy, all the other little details work themselves out. If you develop a reputation for being dependable and getting the job done right the first time, the right people will come looking for you.

    Trust in the universe. Karma is slow sometimes, but she eventually comes around.

    I know Karma all too well...

    A drunk 70-year old man in a 2002 Mercedes E320 clobbered my Tacoma in October 2015; He got a DUI, but it took a while to make it to court...

    When all was said and done, he was ordered to pay me restitution money that went towards upgraded my truck's stereo system, as well a backup camera and two dashcams for the truck

    @El Duderino

    The other day I was talking about the Disney cartoon Recess, and you mentioned how much you hated Randall Weems, the school snitch...

    Well, I'd like to bring up something else. You may or may not remember who many of the children were nicknamed based on their hobbies and interests; One prime example would be Swinger Girl, who was named for her love of playing on the swings and whose real name was never given...

    [IMG]

    In the Season One episode The Great Can Drive, which centers around all of the classes at Third Street School competing to see who can donate the most canned goods to charity for Thanksgiving, the kids become too locked on beating the other classes that they forget what the can drive is all about; An accident near the end of the food results in the donated foods being destroyed! Mikey Blumberg, the only character who really cares about the true meaning of the can drive initially, is devastated; His classmates feel bad and work together to get more donations...

    @El Duderino

    At the end of the episode, Swinger Girl is one of the big donors who gets more cans to make it up to Mikey...

    Swinger Girl mentions that there is a "whole convention of swingers in town" and I believe this was a subtle dirty joke on Disney's part! Swinger Girl is in 4th grade during the series, and in her innocent mind, a swinger is literally someone who likes play on the swingset. I have a feeling that Swinger Girl ended up getting donations from a different type of "swingers" who weren't literal swingers... :D :rofl:

    Do you have Disney Plus? I had originally managed to watch the entire series on YouTube a couple years ago, but then I got Disney Plus and I've been watching it again; They’ve got season one through three plus the 2001 movie and a few of the direct-to-video specials.

    Let's move here so we're not clogging up an unrelated thread...

    Blue is low pressure side and red is high pressure side; This means that the system was retrofitted. I am surprised that the conversion was done in the 1990s though! R-12 was officially outlawed for use in new production vehicles in 1995, though most vehicles were using R134a by 1994; However, R-12 was still readily available and not terribly expensive in the late nineties!

    My aunt's first brand new car was 1992 Saturn SL2; she special-ordered it, and to date it is the only car she's financed and hasn't paid cash for. In 1999 or 2000, her mechanic talked her into converting to R134a. She does not remember why she did this or if the car had a leak, and I told her that if the mechanic converted the system just for the heck of it, then it was a stupid decision...
