Toyota shifts Tacoma pickup production from Texas to Mexico; continues $13 billion US investment

I disagree. The TACOMA namesake comes from an alternate name for Mt. Rainier in Washington.

 

1st gens were all made in the US. The highest selling of the two Toyota trucks will no longer be made here and the price will just keep going up.

 

As a Canadian, I dont have much skin in this game. I like Mexico and the US and think both countries are good bedfellows here in North America.

However, it is funny how these announcements come out as a “Win win”. Like, there is a negative, so it’s gotta be countered by a positive. Tacoma’s no longer made in US (bad), followed by an announcement of more investment in US facilities (good). However, the negative remains. It’s just spin.

I equate it to this:

Neighbour throws shit in your face, then offers to mow your lawn. The shit is still on your face.

Surprisingly not. I’ve been on the factory floor in SA and if I had to take a guess, I’d say it’s pretty close to a 50/50 mix of white / Hispanic - other. They’re all working their tails off too.
