Thanks tpp4 for the great write up. It has inspired me to learn some new skills while assembling this harness myself.

Can anyone help me with how to modify this harness to run the Key in Bi-Amp Operation? I will be using the stock wiring to the tweeters, and running new wires to the woofers in the front doors. I will likely not use the rear speakers at all (I have an access cab,) but I would like to keep them connected to the HU unless it causes issues. I am brand new to this, so looking at the wiring diagrams still makes my head spin.

 

Run a new wire from the tweeter location over to the radio. Splice this new wire into the factory pair of wires that continue into the door. Then instead of splicing the Key’s rear wires into the Metra harness, splice then to your new wire you ran.
Then you can do both pairs of rear wires together (same way you’ll do the power, ground, other wires) and this will just keep the rear channels of the factory radio going to the rear speakers

 

Bare with me. Are you saying that the rear speaker output(woofer) from the key, is spliced into a new speaker wire, which is then spliced into the factory wiring between the tweeter and the door speaker?

at the factory tweeter, there is a connector with 4 wires. 2 of these wires are coming FROM the radio, and 2 are going TO the door speaker. So you can run new wire from the radio over to this junction and tap into the pair going TO the door speaker

 

Ok- I didn’t realize you’d be able to keep the tweeter and woofer signals separate in that configuration. Would the other option be to run the new woofer wire through the door boot and directly into the speaker? It sounds like the tweeter should still work then with the factory door speaker plug not connected. The benefit here would be I could leave factory wiring 100% intact.

Should I wire in the hideaway to this harness? If so should I wire it up before it inputs to the amp on the radio side> I already have the harness and key amp just waiting on the hideaway to arrive before wiring everything up. Thanks for all yalls help in advanced

 

Where do you plan on putting the hideaway? If it’s going under the drivers seat, the wires will reach and you can go ahead and wire them together. If you’re putting it behind the back seat, the wires need to be extended to reach.
The blue remote wire will need to be extended no matter where it goes. For some reason it’s only like 2’ long.

but no matter what you do, I would wire it into the key harness. Keep it clean and simple.

and yes, wire it on the radio side. Don’t want the key’s settings affecting the sub

 

Thanks man! I'm not sure where to put the sub yet, most likely in the back seat. I have no problem extending the wires.

 

The TT tweeter harness has 4 wires. I know this is because the speakers are wired in parallel, I just don't understand where these wires go.

This harness makes more sense to me. What am I missing?

one pair of wires is coming FROM the radio
the other pair of wires goes TO the door speaker. these wires get connected at a junction in the factory tweeter

Ok. If I understand this correctly now, I can use the TT tweeter harness to make Bi-Amping the fronts even more simple. I will connect one pair of wires into the tweeter, and run the other pair directly into my t-harness(the rear output of the amp.) This will skip the step of running a new wire through the door boot since I can use the factory front speaker plug with the Crutchfield supplied adapter.

 

Please take a look at my harness. This is wired for front component speakers using the active crossover Bi-Amp feature of the Key. The rear speakers will connect directly to the HU. A pair of TT tweeter harnesses (right,) have tweeter connectors spliced to the input wires and woofer outputs directly from the key spliced to the output wires (I’ll connect the door speakers to the stock plug.) There is an additional set of speaker wire (front L&R out of the Metra male) and a remote turn on wire(grey) exiting frame left for a Kicker Hideaway.

Post up a pic of one of the tweeter harnesses laid out. I see in my head what you’re plan is but I want to see what you actually did. I’m guessing the green/purple from the key go to the woofer wires in the connector. Then the 2nd pair of wires in that harness will get connected to your new tweeter? And that pair of wires will be fed by the factory wiring at the tweeter location, which is coming from the white/grey from the key.

If i want to prewire for a Kicker Hideaway subwoofer would I connect to the speaker wires where the red circles are and the blue remote wire where the yellow circle is?

 

you want the BOTTOM set of wires circled in red, NOT the top set.
and yes, blue wire in yellow circle for remote turn-on

Does this harness supply the necessary power to the Key Amp? Is there no need to run a wire to the battery for this setup?
