They are very similar in terms of carcass construction. The M55 will be even more durable but will conform less when aired down and the compound is a little harder. One is a wheeling tire and one is a commercial heavy industry tire. There is certainly some overlap between the two.

The MT has the cooler sidewall lugs and looks bad ass. However I think the M55 looks badass in a different kind of way.

Yea, I am wayyyy too old for that much snow. I can handle the cold temps. A lot of snow here is 2 or 3 feet in a single storm. I have a Kubota with a 54" blower I put on it. over 1,500' of driveway to clear. Naturally the wind changes direction to blow the dust back on me each pass. :angrygirl:

I am thinking of going the same route. How have they held up? I have stock wheels as you do. Do you have spacers? Any lift? Thanks

Update on my 235/85-16 Firestone XTs.
Got about 1000kms on them so far. Mostly snow and ice covered roads. Really enjoying them. As stated before, there's a little road noise, but I'm used to it now. Tinkered around with the air pressure a bit. Settled on 44 in the rear and 40 up front. Loads of traction, in any condition. I can only compare them to my old 285/75-16 Kelly Safari TSRs, but these are noticeably better. Especially in 2wd.
Fuel consumption comparison will have to wait until warmer spring weather. The winter gas, added idling time and extra time in 4wd makes it nearly impossible to give an accurate comparison.

I'm liking mine too, but I don't think they are much more louder than stock. Mine are load C 255/75/17.

Cooper ST Maxx 255/80/17's about 57k miles and still plenty good tread. They have been great tires in any weather conditions both on and off road.

    Hi Chris,
When you say "plenty" can you measure, please?

I called BJs to get a quote on 4 - 255/85r16s and the guy on the phone was dead set against them. Maybe they are pushing the BFG M/T KM3s. He stated, extremely low speed rating (it's 100mph for the size I want) and how that will make them wear very quick, especially if the majority of the time is spent on road. He also stated they'll require an above average rotation schedule (their price includes free lifetime rotation), and they would be extremely loud right away.

Kinda pissed me off considering how highly regarded and widely used they are by members of this forum.

My apologies I just got on here and saw this a few minutes ago. I went outside and took measurements. Both front and rear measure the same. If I measure to the little bars in between the treads it is 5/32. If I measure to the bottom of the groove it is 9/32. These measurements were in the center treads. This is with 57,000 miles, rotated every 10,000 miles, and inflated to 35-37 pounds. I am not the type of person to dare say these are what you want as I am sure others have not perhaps had the same experience as myself. I can only tell you what I have experienced and yes I would buy these again. I will most likely replace them in the sppring or summer depending on how much I drive it is not my DD.

Please let me know if there is anything else i can help you with as I understand tire decisions can be a pITA

Like @Brownie_Man said, if there is any rubbing at all resolving it is easy.

Why these tires? The reviews are great on Amazon. The price too.

The one review from a Tacoma owner truthful but concerning.

"If you care about road noise and slight vibration from running an aggressive mud terrain tire on the street...don’t buy these. Not sure what other people were expecting."

Might not be an issue for most but........

They're the cheapest option by far, have great reviews and are named brand. My past two vehicles were Wranglers with BFG KM2s and KM3s M/T so road noise and vibration is no stranger to me. The truck almost drives too smooth compared to what im use too lol

Thank you very much Chris! I appreciate it a lot. Great review! 57k is incredible! I've heard nothing but good things about these tires, and it sounds like our habits, and use are the same. I ran the same pressure on the Sport with those Ridge Grapplers. They were an E rated too. I honestly believe that's what helps reduce wear on these lighter trucks. I have seen this tire in person and it's not exactly what I'd classify as an All Terrain tire as Cooper does. The space between blocks actually raised concern when I saw them. To me, the Nitto Terra Grappler, or Wildpeak A/T3 etc, are A/Ts. They call the Duratracs and Ridge Grapplers Hybrid tires. They are supposed to have the characteristics of both. I can only attest to the on-road side. Snow both were excellent with the edge going to the Duratracs. They have more sipes. The S/T Maxx definitely has a similar tread design with the center blocks providing a greater constant contact surface, and the edge blocks providing more grab when needed. They are M+S rated as well. I believe the advantage of the Armor TEK3 will make them a better choice. I know a lot of people run the Duratracs and Ridge Grapplers off road without any problems too, but I want to try something new. Prices are practically the same. Sizes are super close. The S/T Maxx fall in the middle of them on weight.

I am going to give the OEM tires another chance since they are calling for snow and ice here shortly. If I don't feel safe I'll replace them immediately and sell them cheap while they have low miles on them. Apparently they are a hot ticket item for some 2nd Gen guys. $300 - $400 seems fair to me.

4 S/T Maxx OTROTD with lifetime road hazard, and rotation will run me $1,121 w/tax. It would be nice to get 5 but not necessary. Maybe when I get a swingout.

    Thanks again!

Sounds like the perfect tire for you then, congrats!

I commute 80 miles a day. I know most aggressive tires are going to be rough but from my own personal experience, the Duratracs and Ridge Grapplers ride like glass up to about 30k miles. I'm hoping the Cooper does too.

Any spacers? Does that size fit the spare area?

Thanks! I just took my truck out yesterday to some dry river bed with soft sand and cant believe how bad the stock OR tires struggled to get traction in 2wd. Really excited to get these now
