I recently purchased an OEM Sport/Pro Hood for my OR and had it painted at a local collision center to match my truck with the explicit instructions to match the oem Pro color scheme of the matte black hood scoop on the white hood. The service manager even called me to confirm before they painted the scoop and I told them once again, it’s a matte black NOT gloss black and the fact that the collision center is literally next door to a Toyota dealership and I told them to look at the Tacoma TRD pro on their lot if they had any questions. I figured what could go wrong? Apparently that didn’t get properly communicated to the painter and I ended up with a gloss black scoop. When I got the truck back I immediately pointed out to the service manager that it is not we had talked about and he agreed they would fix it. I decided to wait until after I had the the decal installed to have them fix it since they recommended waiting a few weeks before applying the decal and so today I had the OEM Pro hood graphic installed. I’m not sure if I should just leave it gloss or have them change it. What would you do?

Change. The Pro hood is bad enough with glare, so any reduction in glossy surfaces would be a good thing.

I have to admit to being a skewp lover. I would have them change it because of the glare potential. Of course, you've had a chance to drive it - do you get a lot of glare?

I mostly got glare from the White section where the decal is now located. I haven’t had a chance to really test it out yet. I know that the sport hoods are paint matched so they would have the same issue with glare.

Matte would look much better IMO. The gloss scoop next to the matte vinyl doesn't match well.

Matte black of course, loose the sticker, just my opinion. I have a sport in silver and my son's mgm sport. Been in a fair share Tacomas and have friends with them. I have never heard any issues with the glare, where some sunglasses. I like the scoop color matched to the rest personally but if you gotta have it, matte black.

I get tons of glare from my white sport. Most is from the scoop and the curved part near the windshield

Gloss looks too much like you stuck a sunroof deflector to your hood.

I wrapped my scoop in 3M series 1080 satin black very close in color to the oem hood decal closer than the matte black vinyl I ordered, also has held up well over a year now.

Looks great! I guess that’s a vote for “other” option!

Thank you for all the inputs ... I had them change it to matte black as I originally requested.
