Tires too heavy?

I've been running General Grabber At2 245/75-16's load E for about a year and a half. They're about 44 lbs ea., same overall diameter as factory, a little narrower. The factory tires I think were 36 lbs ea., adding 8 lbs to each corner definitely slows down a bit the already underpowered 3rd gen. Load E tires also ride much harder than factory. If you're doing a lot of very difficult off roading load E tires are probably your best bet, if not, I'd stay away from load E tires on a 3rd gen. On the positive side, I haven't had one bit of trouble with the Grabbers.

 

I switched from KO2s e rated to Goodyear ultra terrains today.

My truck definitely looked cooler with the KO2s.

What size KOs and what load rating were you running? How about the ultraterrains?

 

Both were 265/75/16

goodyears are SL . KO2s were E-rated.

KO2s look way cooler and are much more quiet on the road than the Goodyear UT. I just couldn’t deal with the performance downgrade. It wasn’t worth it.

There are no c-rate KO2s in the size I wanted.


I wanted cooper AT3 LT/c-rated, but they didn’t pop’ visually like the Goodyear Ultra terrain. I think might just get a second pair of wheels/tires for off-road use. Because getting flats sucks

 

Yeah, that is a 13 lb difference per tire, IIRC. I’d imagine that would be noticeable. Did you see Toyo makes the ATII in a load range C 265/75? Weighs 44 or 45 lbs, I can’t remember.

 

My tires weigh 66lbs each and 88lbs with wheels which is 25lbs heavier per corner than stock. Truck is fine minus the fuel economy.

 

They both look really nice though. In a few weeks I’m getting the Yokohama x-at in a 265/75/16 I’ll post pics.

 

Depending where I’m driving and how I’m driving, I’ve gotten 20.5MPG with 275/70/17 E rated tires and a small lift

 

I ended up going with wildpeaks at3w in 245/75/16. Weights 39 lbs +25lbs rim. This is the lightest option I found. Was planning to get skinnies, but there are not many options and weight a ton.

Just received yesterday, need to mount.

 

Mpg result on my normal commute with Ultraterrains. I normally get 21-22.

I was getting 18 mpg on the E-rated KO2s.

Got my power back and my Fuel economy. I may get a second set of E or C rated tires for off roading. the piece of mind would be worth it.

 

Toyota's computer for fuel economy is very inaccurate in most cases. Manually check your miles/gal for to get an accurate result.

 

According to who? I tracked my mileage for 9 months with hand calculations/excel and my result was pretty much inline with the computer’s results.

 

I did fuelly and it was so spot on i just logged out and uninstalled the app. there was no point.

 

I reached the same conclusion. With larger tires, I’d understand.

 

I track "fuel economy" for over 2 years. Computer is off by less than 0.5 mpg from manual calculation.

 

I have general grabber X3s at 63lbs per on my truck. They hit the mileage (22mpgs to 17mpgs), but otherwise are fine.

 

I just had a trip where I was running low on fuel, but wanted to see how far I could stretch the tank. I divided the miles driven on the tank (trip meter) by the computer's tank MPG estimate, to get how many gallons I'd used out of 21.1 gal tank. Answer by my math was 20.5 gals consumed. Filled up, put 20.546 gals in.

That's pretty damn accurate if you ask me.

 

Finally mounted tires. Pumped at 35-36 and the weight is about 65-67 lbs.
