    I dunno.

If he's not going to wheel it at all, and keeps it under 3", it really shouldn't be TOO bad.

You can also get a set of TRD Pro shocks and get a an extra 1"-1.5" of lift

I agree. Even if he isn’t going off road , a set of 6112/5160 is very reasonable in price and if he is going to go thru taking it apart he might as well upgrade at minimal cost.

I run 6112 front, and Dakar medium leafs in the back. It really handles business.

You probably won't hear it from anyone here but it's definitely possible. I've seen it happen to a handful of people. Lifting and really modifying at all almost always comes with unexpected side effects. Be prepared for them and realize it's just part of the game. This coming from someone who has replaced the suspension on every car I've ever owned. Adhering to the "buy once, cry once" motto can reduce the likelihood of regret.

I kinda wish I had lifted mine MORE. I think a 4 inch lift and 35x12.5R17s would look awesome. That said, my 2.5 inch lift and 33x12s is perfectly functional and I still fit on tight trails and into most parking garages.

IMO The 6112/5160 is the most bang for your buck you can get. I run 8112/8100 and also have no regrets. Bilstein has been handling business for almost 70 years

    - 6" lift
    - 285/70R17

I would never go back to stock.

When I was stock, I was getting around 19 mpg but with the lift and tires, I now get around 17 mpg. It isn't a significant drop in gas mileage.

I've been eying those 8100 shocks. Currently have 5125 in the rear, cheap and work great.

If I was going to lift these trucks I would use the TRD Fox shocks and some extra leafs in the back, all for me nothing too fancy as I do a ton of driving .. Maybe my next truck will have the lift and shocks I want :( By then these trucks will be an extra $7,000 I bet LOL.

2.5" front and 1.5" rear on 285/70R17. Put about 5k miles after lift and no ragrets. And yes I rub lol.

Before & After my 3" Icon stage 3 lift. I have leaf springs off a Pro with an icon add a leaf in the rear. 265/75/17's

Here's how it sits with 285/70/17's

I change at the factory recommended mileage in the owners manual. Initially I changed oil at dealership taking advantage of the free oil change services.
I also have an oil catch can installed on my engine which I empty fairly often that keeps my engine clean. I know some may disagree, but I have a clear bottle full of junk/black goo I have collected from this oil catch can to prove it to anyone who wants to challenge me. I have a picture of this bottle in my history.

As for weight of the newer 285s/ray10 wheels, I'm pretty sure it's quite significantly more. Here's an image of stock vs new comparison. But every driver is different, and as I have admitted about me before, I drive fast. I can only speak about my personal experience and others he may disagree with me, but when my truck was new, when I started driving it like how I used to drive my audi, I could feel the body roll, and had to pucker up and slow down, felt one of my wheels was coming off the ground. Especially when I take an turning on-ramp onto a highway near my home at speed, I could feel one of the tires losing contact from the ground and almost barely lifting. But changing to my wheels/tires I have now instantly took care of the body roll as they were heavier and had a much wider stance and I never had that problem. I did sacrifice a lot of mileage. Went from 19mpgs to 14.5mpg.
Yes, this is why I got the ray10s for their offset and wider stance without having to put a spacer and sacrificing brake performance. And the wheels/33s give me the additional weight and + 3" offset which improved the stability.

AC86043A-9D7D-430B-A61A-68A6EAC5C2BA.jpg Love the look of the lifted truck. I only did the 2”-3” leveling kit. Put 285’s on it and it looks great. MPG’s did go down. I drive a shot ton of miles. I might drop down a sizes next round.
