Yeah I don’t think I’d be happy with anything less than a new engine. And no way in hell would I want the same dealership doing the swap.

Find a reputable independent mechanic. Tell him what happened and ask him to perform (1) a compression test on all cylinders; (2) a leak-down test; (3) examine the cylinders for scoring; and (4) listen to the bottom end. This should run you about $250. Ask him to note any parameters that are out of spec, and anything which appears to be a sign damage as a result of low oil. If everything appears okay, THEN ask the dealer for the free, 100K warranty. If ANYTHING is out of spec according to the independent mechanic, then have him detail that on company letter-head, take it to your Toyota dealer and tell them you want a new engine AND the cost of the independent inspection.

I don't trust them either. When I took delivery of my truck the AT fluid was a quart low, all 5 zerks were dry and the rear diff was weeping.

New engine Give them a Choice New Truck or New Engine. Find an attorney who write letter first. Some time knowing an Attorney is involved will get them moving. My cousin is an attorney. He wrote a letter to the absentee landlord of property behind me over an issue with tree damaging my shop and the attached deck. Problem solved. This was after I tried for 2 being a nice guy.

Yeah like as long as your grandchildrens children's step child

OP, just because the computer says it's fine. It's probably not if it starved without 6 qts of oil. My guess is they forgot to refill it not that it 'leaked" no way 6 qts can leak that quickly unless they forgot to put the filter or bolt back on in which case they would have a mess

WTF? Another dealership from hell. If this motor ran without oil; it will eventually have a major meltdown. New motor or let it sit in there lot till the bank takes it back. Toyota's are junk anyways.

Brenda, while you are deciding what action to take with the dealership, check you oil dipstick regularly. If you notice the oil level dropping, make sure the dealership documents that in your file and get a paper printout for your records.

with them not putting oil in the engine you can expect advanced wear on any metal to metal surfaces. They owe you a legitimate reason and an extended warranty

This is why i change my own oil. The kids they have at the dealerships they pay 10/hr from superlube to change oil on the weekends.

Ask the dealership owner , to take his car or a favorite collector car of his , and empty the oil , drive it a similar amount and then ask to know what he does in the future .

I’m impressed you drove the truck after they said to drive 1000 miles. Maybe due to lack of knowledge but I’m with everyone else here as I wouldn’t accept anything but a brand new crate engine in this case.

She commented that there was a huge oil spill under the truck and oil all under it. Looks like the o ring that good on the filter housing wasn’t metaled correctly and the oil pressure forced oil past the threads on the housing

There's no doubt in my mind that they forgot to add the oil. and the pistons are all messed up now. OP you need to get them to do a tear down on that engine. It's probably toast

This article talks about a Demo possibly being a good deal under the right conditions. I think not running the engine without oil would be top on that list. Watch out when they say it was the owner's demo and he/she took good care of it.

Are you thinking no gasket or just no torque to the plug? All things considered it could be both given the situation and the carelessness of whoever changed the oil.

I would try to get a new engine, if you could. I cut my teeth on old Subarus with cooked rings, which meant lots of oil consumption and low oil levels. Those Subaru motors don't do great without enough oil.

Engines spin FAST, and a lot can get messed up in a short time if they are not properly lubricated.
