Injector fuel hose OK to use for the power steering return hose? I can't find just the rubber return hose, Toyota only sells the whole assembly, cheapest I've found is $132. PITA. The metal line is all good, just the rubber from the metal return line to the reservoir needs replaced.

We're talking the low pressure side right? That sucks it's only available that way. I'd imagine it's fine to use, but never had to nor looked into it, so no direct experience

    Yeah, low pressure return line.

I'm assuming the lines on the 4R now are OEM. They are rock hard and very brittle. That's what was causing the power steering leak. Had to order a new OEM hose for the reservoir to pump side and I can get the return line from rock auto for $25 but if FI hose is good then I'll keep that on there. Replaced that one line today with 3/8" ID FI hose but I wasn't able to get the hose on far enough to be comfortable. It'll hold but I'm gunna have to do it all again when I get the other factory hose.

I was just worried that maybe the ATF caused the old lines to get hard and brittle over time like that. Maybe it's just the location they are in too, might collect a lot of heat there.

That sounds like normal hardness to aging and use and stuff. Unlucky about the leak, might've been bumped or something. Seems most are old and hard but not most leak

The Taco never had hard, brittle return lines and that had the original rack, pump and hoses on it with 314k miles and was filled with actual power steering fluid. But who knows. :annoyed:

The 4R had been leaking for a while from that return line. Huge mess in front of the air box there. I've cleaned up a bunch but still need to spray some engine cleaner in there and then hose it down.
