I stopped by the local state store and noticed this batch was up at 134.8. I haven’t pulled the trigger on a bottle yet but wanted to share what I found today.

I think it was. But I was very excited going in. So that may have made me more inclined to like the pour. Very smooth. I had lots of cherry notes and taste. Would I buy another pour? Maybe once or twice again.

Congrats! Lasik is one of the best things I've done for myself. Been nearly 5 years and I can still see better than I ever could when I wore corrective lenses. :laser:

Some kick ass bourbons there to reward yourself with for sure.

Oof! My favorite of all time is and will always be Blanton’s but I can tell you that I yesterday I fully enjoyed Bib & Tucker for the first time (surprisingly) and tonight I loved me some Shelter Point. Mmmm!

Can't ever go wrong with WT101. Can sip it neat and it's very enjoyable or mix it into a killer old fashioned and not feel like you're wasting good bourbon in a cocktail. And also I'm a bit of a WT homer :).

Took the advice of a couple members and used Monkey Shoulder in a whiskey sour tonight. Very happy with the results! Thank you.

I did a quick search to see what ya'll had to say about Wild Turkey 101, that's always been my personal favorite, and I saw this post.
    Interesting story...

I'm getting up there in age (enjoy your youth guys... time flies, it really does) and I'm the youngest of 5 kids. My grandparents on my father's side were Italian immigrants and they came to NYC from Italy and then moved on to the Midwest. Around 1910ish I guess. They passed on when I was very young. Anyway my grandfather worked for his brother, my great uncle I guess that would be, and they were builders. People back then took real pride in their work, houses were very well built. Go to any old city and look at neighborhoods that have been standing for 80 years plus. A lot of those homes were built by Italian immigrants. Carpenters and stone masons. They built homes to last, not like this cheap crap they throw up now.

Now Prohibition was in the 20's... but that wasn't gonna stop these folks from drinking their whiskey. (My brother to this day still has their copper still on display in his man cave. Its pretty cool. Not real big, maybe about the size of a small golf bag with a long copper coil coming out of it. All copper and most definitely handmade.)

So long story short, its been awhile now, but back about 30 years ago my oldest sister (she's like the keeper of the family genealogy... she loves that stuff) returned to the city we all came up in on business and decided to pay a visit to the house my grandparents lived in. This was a big house see, because two families lived in it. It wasn't a duplex, it was just a big house my great-uncle and grandfather built for both families to live in. That's just the way the Italian culture was back then, the family was family.

Anyway, my sister remembered from her time as a child that there was a hidden cache built into the ceiling in the basement of this house where "important things" were stashed. So she decides she wants to go check it out, drives to the house, and goes knocking on the door. This is in the hood now mind you... its no longer a nice neighborhood. A nice family lived there however and they see this fat old white lady on their porch that says her grandparents built the house, lived there, and there was a secret cache in the basement she wanted to check out. Well, they bit lol. I don't know what her plan was, (nor did she knowing her), if there was anything valuable in there how she would handle it with the current residents. Anyway... she goes down there, and in fact finds the hidden boards or whatever still intact and opens it up... like Geraldo's Al Capone thing... and it was empty... except for .... several jars of homemade whiskey. I was overseas at the time but I guess she got them to my brother somehow and he actually had the balls to drink some. No kick at all. said it was like nasty water.
Anyway lol... your post reminded me of that and I'm sipping a coffee trying research some of my 2011's gremlins so I thought I'd share.
    Carry on.

I should've done it sooner, I've had good vision benefits since 2010, just kept telling myself it wasn't worth it since my vision "wasn't as bad as others I know" like it makes a difference. We all put in contacts, who cares what the Rx is, it's a pain! 24 hour post-op I tested at 20/15 :woot:

I thought B&T was a bit too spicy for me, almost whiskey like. My local Total Wine can't seem to keep it in stock, so clearly I'm in the minority :crapstorm:

So, a couple of days ago, I was in my regular liquor store to fetch a handle of one of my daily drinkers (Ancient Age). When I get to the counter, the lady says, "Hey, we got some Ancient Age 10 Star in the back. Would you rather have that?" Stuff is pretty damn good, to me!! I had never seen it for sale and, actually, I thought it was discontinued.

Just had the last two pours of a bottle Jefferson Very Small Batch. Wow it was good, something I definately recommend especially for the price point.

Alright gents, here we go again. I have about $100 (or less of course) to spend on a new bottle. Thinking about going with Michters US1 Bourbon. Is that a good one or is there something else I should go look at? I've only had Michters once when I was on my Kentucky trip a few months back. The Rye also looks appealing though.

Their American Whiskey is my favorite. Definitely won't put you to the $100 mark though. You can do two of Michters and still be under the $100 mark

Cheaper is 100% OK with me. I usually save about $100 in my whiskey account between bottles just in case theres a diamond somewhwere. :)

EDIT: Their American is sold out until February :(

I'm a fan of Michters - had some of the rye last night as a matter of fact. The US 1 (American Whiskey) is very good, but can be hard to get.

Are you looking strictly for bourbon? Lots of options, depending on what you like...
