So I might be a lil overzealous but I'm planning on fluid filming the undercarriage of my truck. I live in in the ie but I do surf and go up to the mountains a bit (cal trans uses brine which some say is worse than salt although I dont know how since it is salt mixed with other crap to my understanding) but anyhoo I do always hose and wash my undercarriage from when I get back but I figured overkill is better than no protection since we are not in one of that frame campaign states and if we got rusted frames then toyota would not cover us (well per the letter floating around online)

Any of you other guys in socal fluid film, woolwax, krown, etc?

I use FF because I drive to Utah an mammoth every ski season. It’s definitely good protection if you do it once a year.

its good UNTIL it washes off, which in my severe weather testing, really does not last long what so ever on areas i must keep clean in the mid west
been fighting this winter battle for 1/4 century now and all these anti corrosion sprays are so new to me! so maybe i don't know what the chit i am doing :(

For you guys who live where they salt the roads, after applying the fluid film do you guys just drive around all winter without washing off the undercarriage? I imagine it would be almost impossible/pointless to wash it off everyday or even a few days

From the N. east. I have been using FF for a few years now.
Do not wash it off. It works best if you keep the layers.

I’m from New Hampshire where the roads are treated from November through April. I use one of the air sprayer guns and give it a real good coating in the Fall before things start getting treated. I was my truck (drive thru automatic car wash) a couple of times a month during the winter and less often the rest of the year. Whenever I get up under there to work on stuff, there is still a decent coating of FF where I’ve sprayed it. In my experience, cheap insurance if you’re planning on keeping your truck awhile (which I am). Toyotas tend to rot due to salt here before they crap out mechanically. I’ll keep doing it to prolong the life of the truck. Just my $.02

a garden hose won’t wash it off, if you want to rinse it off with that. I don’t spray underneath in the winter, had no issues on my 2nd gen and am taking the same approach on my current vehicles.

If it’s put in thick, it doesn’t wash off that easily. You could try Woolwax also, it seems a little thicker to me.

most i have heard just leave the slop piling up and never hose anything off. i like to keep a rather clean looking taco, extra difficult for black with all the salty roadspray getting everywhere

one trouble spot i found after 21 years was here in my door jam sill area
tried some FF to protect it but after 3 power wand rinsings the exposed exterior part is pretty much non existent
going to next try some BOEshield to protect this spot

    IMG_0098.jpg

my wheel wells are another spot that i have to hose off routinely so the body panels do not rot and perforate like most all truck i have EVER seen around here after time do

garden hose aint taking this slop off.jpg

this slop under here i just cannot leave it!
so far this driver side section i was able to strip all the old garbage frame coating and put on some better quality chemically resistant primer (2 heavy coats) no FF spray or anything until I can scuff and get a top coat on when the weather here is more conducive.

the passenger side is the same salty slop but still has most of the old frame coating with surface crust just wanting to blossom
i was not able to thoroughly get all the old frame coating off that side before the weather got too cold this fall so i just tried to protect the naked frame parts with a good drizzling of FF
while hosing that side out last week it seemed the FF just came right off, i noticed a few days later that some major flash rust was starting up where the power wand must've hit it head on  ... its zero degrees F here this week so i just drizzled more FF on that spot for now

A lot of trucks (not just toyotas) tend to rust out at the rockers and tailgates. Call me a little anal, but i fluid film the crap out of the inside of the tailgate and even pull the little rubber plugs from the bottoms of the doors and the rockers and spray that crap all inside there. Just my experience of where I see other vehicles (and past vehicles of mine) rot out the most.
