I have a 2018 tacoma. Right off the bat the radio would seize-up. No control from the unit itself or the steering wheel. It will eventually start working again. Dealer replaced the radio. Still have the problem. Just took it in for a recall and asked them to fix the radio, again. When I got the truck back, they said it just needed an update. On the way home, the radio froze again. Anyone out there having this problem? what did you do?

Mine has frozen up three times in the first year I had it. It has not done it again in the past couple of months and the times it did freeze up I just rebooted it and it came back to normal.

it has happened to me a few times as well. I just hold the power/volume button down and it resets. It is slightly frustrating, but I just deal with it as its pretty uncommon.

Try getting the Head Unit to forget your cell phone. Or drive around without your cell phone as a test. If it does not freeze it could be something about your phone that is causing the problem. I have an older Samsung phone and Entune Premium and never that this issue.

Thanks for the replies. Have tried all the above. Nothing functions when the unit seizes. Can't even turn it off, unless I shut off the truck and re-start it. Dealer put in a new radio already. Had to wait 2 1/2 months for it. They're back ordered. They said they were ordering another one, and they are still back ordered. This is ridiculous.
ps I've got a new iPhone. DOesn't matter if the phone is connected or not. Steering wheel controls don't work when this happens, although sometimes the volume control on the wheel will start to work, and then it's back to normal, but not always.

It has happened to me four times that I know of. Honestly, it may happen more, but I listen to the news 90 percent if the time and don't need to change the volume. The last two times it happened, it paused the live radio with the littlw arrow on the right side if the screen so I actually noticed.

My 18 started to have constant restarts a few weeks ago. There are several threads here and in other forums - basically any forum where the vehicle had an Entune system.
I read through quite a number of threads looking for an answer. The exact cause is not really known. Apple will point the finger at Toyota and Toyota will point the finger at Apple.

This is what I did and have had no issues since.

In the Entune settings, I Deleted All my Personal Data - which reset my head unit back to like the day I got it. I did not install any of the Slacker or I Heart Radio apps. I also did not load the Entune App onto my phone. ( I previously did have these things installed)

I then did the following step by step.

    1. Forget the Tacoma from my phones Bluetooth settings
    2. Removed/unpaired ALL connected phones from the head unit
    3. Removed the Entune app from iPhone
    4. Reset my Network Settings on my iPhone
    5. Signed out of the iTunes account on my phone
    6. Restarted my phone
    7. Signed back into iTunes account
    8. Turn Bluetooth back on and re-pair iPhone with the head unit like normal
    9. Re-Sync contacts and enable "Show message notifications" in Bluetooth settings (tap on the blue i (with a circle around it) next to the Tacoma connection)

After doing all that stuff - no more reboots, everything worked like normal - even WITH the Contacts Synced up.

Let me know if this works for you...

yep, been dealing with the same thing for months. Actually cancelled my extended warranty over it cause toyota was being dumb about it. So bad now that every half a song it scrolls to another station and locks me out of the controls...even skips cd's (its a round disc that old people have music on)......figure at some I'll buy an aftermarket head unit....for the most part now I just keep it off....good luck

After spending nearly $40,000 on a truck I can’t believe how many of you are willing to accept this BS. I don’t have any apps installed on my phone. I don’t do iHeartRadio. My phone just connects via Bluetooth so I can make phone calls and receive phone calls with the touch of a button on the wheel. I have two other vehicles with this technology and zero problems. Looks like I bought the wrong truck. Has anyone pushed their dealer with the lemon law and requested their money back?

Seems to me that entune is the problem.

I have an android with the same issue.
If you can get refunded the value of your truck over a radio I say go for it. The problem of having to reset my radio on occasion isn't enough of an issue for me to lose any sleep over.

I wonder if it could be a power supply issue, be interesting to bench one with a good clean power supply and see if it clears up.

Then again, their software is probably a spaghetti code horror show that booted once so they shipped it.

I'm sure this can be addressed with a software update. Toyota doesn't seem to give a shit is the problem.

Payrow, this truck was just in the shop for recall and the radio. Their remedy for the radio was to update it.. It did nothing. I’m blown away by how many out there are okay with spending $40k on a vehicle that doesn’t work. Maybe you folks are all really young and your parents bought your car.
