Flag Pole Knob? That would be a helluva drive for some happy snaps (but fun for sure). I was trying to think if you could use one of the many LZ's on the TBS side of Quantico, but I think they might frown on the drone use. I can check next week.

 

Ok yeah Flag pole would be a lot of fun but it's quite the drive.

 

Quantico might work but the drone use would make me nervous. I'd hate to get someone spun up over something so stupid.

 

@3pooches Thinking about welding to cast iron. What technique are you using welding or brazing? And how are you controlling the critical temperature of the casting? Both methods seem to involve problems, particularly keeping the casting at 1400 degrees.

 

Yeah. Was mostly a joke. What are the rules about flying a drone around non controlled airports? My first thought was one of the small airports out in the country, Fauquier, Culpeper, etc. where you could park at the end of the runway and shoot down or across the runway/field to see how far you are throwing light.

 

To fly within the no fly zone you need permission from the flight control tower. DCA is a hard no fly zone and is much larger (18 miles). It was set that way after 9/11.

 

I’ve never had to welded cast iron, but from what I’ve been told, you will want to tig it. I’ve also been told it can be a really PITA. Are you trying to bond two pieces of cast or repair a crack?

 

I thought he was referring to you welding to the stock axle housing
