Hi y’all I have been debating getting a camper shell for my 2019 taco. It is a short bed which makes me pause because there is never a chance I could sleep in it with the camper but beyond that hesitation is whether I always want the camper shell on. I want to use it when I go camping primarily and I wonder if anyone here has a method for making the removal and replacement easy. bonus points if the method doesn’t require a whole lot of money. thanks!

Softopper. Takes about 5 minutes to put on or take off. Also folds up. Significantly cheaper than a hard shell and excellent quality.

You know I hadn’t considered a soft topper because in all honesty I hadn’t seen many and yours looks great! Does it make much noise when driving? Flapping and whatnot?

I have a good friend across the street who has a 89 4Runner that I help him take on and off (seemingly every time there is a swing in weather) and it is heavy and awkward for just us 2. I’m going to tell him we need more friends!

I had the same concerns before I bought it but it makes zero noise and no flapping. It’s a heavy canvas and there’s basically no movement, even in heavy winds, rain, etc. I’ve been very happy with it.

@Cav_BluTRD has camped under his a few times. He rigged up a bug net and everything. Tons of options, especially since you can roll up the sides

That is great to hear! Or, rather to not hear! I was wondering about setting up an extension to sleep in the back so that is awesome to know! I will go check out his profile

There are hoist systems you can rig up with pulleys to lift it right off your truck and stow on the garage ceiling. You just lower it back on your truck when you want it on again.

They also make this. I’ve seen a few people use them and they seem pretty happy with the setup.

That’s a great option, I hadn’t seen that yet! Anyone have any actual experience with it?

I've got one. It works well on my shell. Not sure how it works on a softtop without a window holding it up

Regarding easy on and off: I built a hoist system on a trolley mounted to my garage ceiling. It was not outrageously expensive
