Except for steering racks! Toyota racks are common leakers in my experience. Have seen it on several Tacomas I've worked on, an Avalon, and a Camry.

Get it replaced under warranty. Then once warranty is up, do yourself a favor and get a "lifetime warranty" unit from Auto Zone next time it goes out. I've not had a problem with an auto zone rack, other than they tend to leak right on schedule (50k to 80k miles) just like the OEM one does.

It's one of the top items on my list to inspect before 36k / 36mo. warranty runs out in a few months. Not a huge expense to replace DIY, but a real pain in the ass, and alignment cost on top of it.

"Weak" hasn't been my experience. I was HARD on my Gen1...I mean some pretty crazy shit at speed over good size rocks, and some super hard hits over the years. Never broke one, and never even loosened one up. Hard enough hits to flatten alignment tabs and shear a motor mount. Never broke a rack or tie rod end. The tie rods on the Gen3 seem awful small diameter compared to Gen1 though. But believe it's the same rack as Gen2, so who knows how they'll hold up to abuse.

Leak, yes. Weak, no. At least for me.

Tacomas use AT fluid as PS fluid. Its cheap, pickup a gal when its on sale.

Update: toyota took it today and is going to replace the steering rack. Gave me a loaner for the time being. Hopefully I’ll be good after this. They said it doesnt happen much.

my 2019 was leaking with only 2,500 miles. Right out the dust boot on the input shaft. They replaced the rack within a couple days... however they forgot to top off PS fluid so need to take it back this week. Good as new now though!

Think my pump is actually leaking...

I'm gonna pursue the dealer option first. See if they'll cover it under the 60k warranty. Also the PS fluid reservoir is below the cold minimum when it's considered hot. Anyone have ideas if this is both the pump and the rack?

    Lucky.
I'm surprised they didn't deny based on lift and wheels.

I had the PS leaking into the boots around 18k on my 2018. Dealer swapped the rack under warranty, no issues since, but I'm only at 25k.
