Is there any remote start that doesn’t shut off when you open the door? I know they do that with the push button starts not sure about the key ones.

I’d like to add a remote start but not if I have to restart once I get in.

No. No current remote start system leaves the 3rd Gen Taco running after opening the door.

I really don’t understand that feature. No other vehicle I know of does that. Thanks for the info though.

    Word.

Everything I've read says Toyota compels it as a "safety feature" so that someone can't steal the truck.

A safety feature would be disabling the gear select (automatic) when a key fob is not detected. I purposely left my key fob in my garage after starting and drove around my neighborhood. Aside from a dash light being on it drives like normal.

That is false. My newly installed iDataStart HC1 system allows secure takeover. I auto-start, later unlock, get in, put my key in and turn to ON (do not actuate the start just put it pass accessory) then step on the brake. The door does not cut it off and the key is securely taken over. I have an H-key and not push-to-start but it has instructions for that system to work this way also. You "can" configure it to cut off on door open if you want.

our subaru crosstrek does the same thing (shuts off when door is opened), with the factory remote start and keyed ignition. our gm, does not shut the truck off when the door is open but, you have to put the key in and cycle it, to get the truck to operate as normal.

i would say it is either an asian auto thing, or a dot, u.s.a regulation thing. your results may vary. Ski

I used a Compustar Remote start unit on several manual vehicles. The engine would not shut off when the door opened.

As long as vehicle has cell service distance doesn't matter. Very rural areas and parking garages can be an issues, but you can still use 3x on the oem fob.

The other part that is nice is that you can remotely lock/unlock. If you need to let someone drop something off to you, you can let them in, and then lock it up afterwards.

Thank you for the information. I had no luck finding a plug-and-play system that would overcome the "safety feature" for push to start and used the factory remote. Good to see others find success. How much did you pay for the iDataStart HC1?

Exactly...someone explain that to Toyota/Lexus please...

Not True, Not False either. Smart Key/Push to Start do kill engine, no kit in the world changes this. HKEY Automatic or HKEY Manual (Like ours, do as you say, have key take over with no issues.)

    Bingo

If your vehicle has good signal to the module (i.e. not in a basement of a concrete parking structure) and you have decent cellular or WiFi signal to your phone, worldwide. (You can be anywhere globally as long as vehicle is in N. America).

And neither does our 3rd gen HKEY manual kit.

You won't find one. Not even any of Toyota's very few OEM kits even bypass this. They did it on purpose. We have dealership account across the nation, Toyota buys from us and never questions it because they already know.
