I am not an emotional person, but reading this nearly brought me to tears. The love that dog has for you knows no bounds when he uses the little strength he has to be by your side. I went through something similar as a kid when we eventually had to put her down because you could tell she was in pain. I know eventually the same thing will happen to the beautiful Shepherd that greets me every time I walk through the door. Thank you very much for taking the time to share this. Stay strong, because you know he is.

I'm saddened by this. I know it's a hard decision to make and certainly not one anyone of us wants to make.

Hoping all the best for you and for your pup.

    To whom it may concern,

Our dog Zoey had arthritis really bad in her last year. We gave her CBD dog treats and it helped her a huge amount. She got her pep back and was obviously happy. She walked much better and she could run a short distance. I can't even express how much better her attitude was.

Sadly one day around 1:00 PM she got really ill. By 4:30 she was put to sleep. We had her since she was 6 months old. She was 12. She had a cancerous tumor and it had burst. That was about 9 months ago.

But she was so much happier that last year.

CBD doesn't get the dog high at all. It is just that CBD works that well.

Reading our TW friend's post reminded me of those feelings and it SUCKS.

    Damn, I love dogs.

Driving home the other day, my local radio station was talking to Burt Ward (Robin) from Batman. He now owns a dog food company called Gentle Giants. Long story short, they claim dogs eating this can live well into their 20’s. Anybody tried this food with your dogs?

Damn, Don, I always love seeing your pics of your GSP (I have a Vizsla, similar crazy breed lol), and I am bummed out hearing about Bear. 15 is an amazing life. Our last 2 dogs have both gone at 12. Seeing your beloved senior dog start heading that direction is the worst thing ever. I wish you and your wife many more sweet memories with Bear before having to say goodbye.
    God Bless.

Thanks, Steve. And all others who have sent me well wishes. Bear is still hanging in there. He still has as an appetite so that's a good thing. Bear has been the best dog I've ever had. Great personality, great attitude. Protective. And an excellent hunter/retriever in his day. He got shortchanged in the leg length department so my wife and I call him Stubo Bubo. He was nearly a senior when we got Sadie, the GSP, and he was amazingly patient with her. I watched her make him cry several times when she would bite his ears as a puppy. Truly a once in a lifetime dog.

Here he is at age 10.

Then with Sadie when she was about 9 months old.

I'm very hopefull Bear has another year in him if we can get him through this difficult time.

Such a handsome boy. I frequently look at your pics and wonder where in Oakland you live? Cause your back yard view is AMAZING! I grew up in NorCal, closer to Tahoe, and I know south bay but you have so much privacy and view; wow, what a great spot.

I live up the hill from the old Oak Knoll Naval Hospital. The neighborhood is called Sequoya Hills. I live on the east edge of Leona Canyon.
