Got a chirp or squeak coming from the trans when coasting in neutral or sitting with the clutch out, goes away with slight pressure on the clutch. The TOB, clutch and flywheel are all pretty new, less than 5k miles on them, the input shaft had pretty much no wobble when I had the trans out, so im not sure about input shaft bearing.

Going out on a limb but im thinking since the motor doesnt have a pilot bearing in these guys maybe it needed a bit of grease on the end where it goes into the end of the crank and it's a metal on metal chirp.

    Help??

You many have a bad TOB not unheard of for a bad part out of the box.

Does the chirp go away when you put your foot on the pedal and apply light pressure?

If so, you may be a candidate for member hiadun's mod whereby he changed out the factory spring inside the clutch slave cylinder for one from a Ford F150. The concept is to put a little bit of additional force of the throwout bearing against the fingers of the clutch pressure plate. A number of people, including a clutch engineer at LUK, believe that one of the causes of chirping is the T/O bearing skating an the fingers of the PP.

I take it you did not install the PD&M quill kit that is a stainless steel sleeve which fits over the aluminum quill of the transmission snout?

The input shaft of the transmission does not indeed have a corresponding pilot bearing on the engine crank. Seems like recall the shaft is a bit short to even enter the crank, so IMO nothing to be gained in that pursuit.

Possible I suppose, but i thought bad TOB makes noise when clutch is pressed because it spins when its touching the pressure plate

The chirp does go away with light pressure, I've not heard of the f150 thing though, do you have any links or information to that? Also never heard of a sleeve kit? Im not terribly familiar with these transmissions but since the input shaft is tapered and doesnt have a pilot bearing it has to ride in a matching tapered hole in the crank to be centered therefore needing lubrication, similar to how generators have tapered cranks to line up the coils or whatever? I may be talking out my a** but I need to get rid of this noise:lalala:

    Here is hiadun's fix:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/fix-for-squeaking-clutch.272427/

The aftermarket quill kit is manufactured by PDM located near Denver. You will see it referenced in the forums as the URD quill kit but they are just a distributor. The PDM kit is now using the same OEM TSB bearing modified to fit the quill sleeve. I address the TSB below. Here is the PDM site and it explains the issue from their perspective:
    http://www.pdmusa.com/

Here is a Tacoma thread about the quill kit when it first appeared :
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ring-release-bearing-issues-v6-6speed.120059/

Toyota issued a TSB for the problem in Dec. 2010. It is T-SB-0365-10. The TSB is attached below It involves some new parts including a revised throwout bearing but your 2008 truck will not have them unless a previous owner did the TSB.
    T-SB-0365-10.pdf

Finally, there is no way to support the transmission input shaft on the rear of the crankshaft. It is simply too short as I said and is not machined to ride inside any type of bearing. Instead Toyota uses a giant bearing inside the transmission on the shaft at the front of the trans. The input shaft is connected to the output shaft which has two tapered roller bearings set in the case. So the transmission side has a long input/output shaft supported by bearings. I've been inside 6-speed several times and that design impressed me as to how little axial play occurs with the input shaft.
