So it’s still the failure of a different American factory, and one that isn’t present in the Tacoma, Mexican or otherwise. Still not a reason to be upset about production shifting completely to Mexico instead of just a large large plurality being built in Mexico.

How do you know what the cause of the problem is though? Could it be an engineering or parts problem as that would have nothing to do with the assembly plant?

In the case of the cam tower leaks it has to do with them not properly applying sealant, which they know about and haven’t fixed. As for the diffs hard to say, but again they fixed it in the pussy minivan motor Mexican trash Tacoma and not the BIG BAD REAL TRUCK SUPERIOR AMERICAN TUNDRAAAA. My point still stands.

Ha, sorry I’m not nearly as upset as I seem :D I just think some of the silliness toward the Tacoma in the Toyota community gets old after a while. No one likes the popular kid I suppose!

From what I have read here (feel free to correct these numbers if they are off)

San Antonio TX plant produced 230K vehicles in 2019

    Tundra sold 113K in 2019

    Tacoma sold 248K in 2019

So San Antonio TX produced 117K Tacoma’s in 2019

Mexico plants produced 131K Tacoma’s in 2019, or only 14K more than TX.

Because those sub-assemblies are not made at the same factory in San Antonio. Suppose Tundra was the one being moved to Mexico full-time. What makes you think quality will be any better? What rubs me the wrong way is they are taking work away from the same people that will buy the trucks, all on the promise that 2-3 years everything will be better. FCA was supposed to bring manufacturing of the RAM HD back to Michigan and they cancelled that shift.

So after the updated assembly line and when the TNGA frames start being used in the Tundra and Tacoma do y'all see production of the Tacoma being moved back to san Antonio?

I thought you guys wanted to keep manufacturing and assembly jobs in the states.
The quality will be fine with any toyota product made in Mexico, but the workers salaries won’t be spent in the states.
Wherever the plant is making Tacoma’s that’s a big win for the community.

I doubt it, wouldn't really help with cost from their standpoint. I do wonder if T4R production will move here though or Baja once it migrates to the TNGA-F platform.

From my limited time on TW, seems like most modern truck buyers want power adjustable heated seats, Apple CarPlay, 400hp and 35-40 mpg for under $30k...and could care less where it’s built, as long as it “lasts forever”.

A few of us believe it’s better to keep good paying manufacturing jobs here at home, and don’t like corporations that outsource.

I would hope so, but this is a change that would best have to be made early. But the moves are believed to coincide with the introduction of the new models. Apparently Toyota wants to build separate Full-size and Mid-size platforms and keep them in their own plants. This is the frustrating part. Toyota chose to build another plant in Mexico and this new plant was supposed to build Corollas originally but Toyota changed their minds and now wants to build Tacos there.

Toyota did say, no “direct” jobs would be affected. Problem here, is not what they are say, but what they are not saying.

Toyota designed the Tacoma to replace the Hilux. Designed in the US and made first at NUMMI in California exclusively from 95-04, then 2nd Gens from 05-10. San Antonio took over from 11-now.
