Hey @PzTank The cutouts for the rear panel are about 2 1/2" deep x 15 1/2" at the widest point. I scribed these to the panel and might still have the template someplace. Media gallery with more pics of it are here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/media/users/rickg.31287/

Made the platform for the dog this weekend. Removed the seats and the center cubbie. made a cardboard template and went to cutting. used 3/4 MDF and used standard 2X8 for the front support and that worked out well. just made some plunge cuts with a circular saw and a jig saw for the openings to access the storage underneath. Ordered the carpet material from an online store. glued the carpet with 3M Super 77 adhesive, and stapled everything around the edges.

Can someone please tell me what the black plastic “scoop” in the middle of the back panel is? I’m going all the way down to metal, will apply a few layers of Second Skin, carpet and install a Mollie Panel to finish it but I get a lot of road noise from this vent like thing. I’d love to remove it and seal in an aluminum panel under the Second Skin to help deaden the noise but have no idea what this does?

It's the vent for when you slam the door closed. It let's the air pressure out.

Thank you for that! I’ll deaden around it and on it, maybe fill it with some type of open cell foam to allow transfer but cut down the noise but probably a good idea to leave it.

You don't want to block that vent! When the HVAC system is pushing air into the truck, there has to be a way for the pressure to exhaust. If you block the vent, your defroster and other systems won't work as well.

Thanks for this thread everyone. It sure helped me out!

Still need to add carpet to the platform legs but came out great.

I'm on the I've market for an access cab and have got two pups of similar size, about 55lbs. Do you think a 2nd dog would fit back there or would it be too tight

    Stock for now.. maybe
I think there will be enough room for 2 55lbs dogs (with a platform built) as long as they like each other. Love my access cab

Yeah, if the dogs like each other and don't mind touching/being on top of each other they'll be fine. It's definitely not the largest space and they probably wont be able to both lay down.

My dog is 55lbs. He comfortably shared the space with 125 lb dog and they just chilled. The space is adequate if the dogs will abide.

I built a deck, same idea, but I made it level with the fold flat passenger seat so that with it down, it makes one very large deck area. Put the seat up for passengers, he still got the entire area behind the seat and its safer in the event of an abrupt stop. He loves the height. 360 degree view while laying, still room for him to stand up, rests with his nose out the rear window.

    AC FTW!!

Finally got around to importing the pictures. Wanted to keep the rear jump seats in. This was supposed to be the practice run, but didn't turn out too bad, so might be a keeper.

I'm no handyman, but I have heard measure twice, cut once. I measured all cuts twice, wish someone would have said to measure the back seat more than once. That being said, the limiting factors in the cuts were how far back the board "sits" when laying on the seats and where the board contacts the center console.

After two additional cuts, the platform came out to 20 3/4" with the carpet installed (EDIT: just saw I have about 1/4" gap as the platform wasn't pushed all the way back in the picture. You might be able to get by with 21"). This requires you to put the platform in straight up/down near the console and lay it back towards the seats. Putting it on the seats first and laying it down hits the center console. The length was only cut twice and came out to 51 5/8" with carpet installed. Legs are 10" long

I'm 6'1", and I have more than enough room to put the seat back as far as I need to for an A/T (this model didn't come in M/T). I might need to put the seat back another inch or two if I was driving stick.

I posted in another thread but figured i'd share here as well:

As I stated in the other thread my platform sits so high because I have a subwoofer sitting in the middle of the jump-seats. Now all I have to do is carpet it.

Here's what I came up with. Two pieces of 3/4" cabinet plywood that I bolted into the factory bracket for the rear console. I covered everything in contact cement and some indoor/outdoor carpet. Underneath are some De Walt toolboxes, one with tools and the other with recovery gear. Simple, but effective.

This thread was a great help. I’m gonna have to post pictures of it done tomorrow so long as I have off work to put it together. The support is better now than the uncarpeted pic and it still needs some pull handles for the cubbies. Was trying to fit my 12” sub with a box there but it didn’t work out.
