Tacoma 2002 single cab security

Hello everyone this is my first post. I recently got a Tacoma 2002 and I installed an alarm system on it and have a club for the steering wheel. My neighbor has the same truck and he lives in front of me and they broke into his truck and I wanted to see if there was anything else I can do to protect my truck? I live in ca la area

 

kill switch for the fuel pump

disconnect battery every night

pull fuel pump fuse

Heavy chain through rear wheel and wrapped around axle with lock

 

Pick up and move out of state.

 

Over watch with NVG’s and a suppressed bolt action.

Make sure to remove any valuables from inside, or keep it hidden. If you dont have a lock on the tailgate, I would get a pop lock and install it on the tailgate.

 

With me having been in the insurance replacement business and other pertinent unique experiences you've already done 2 good things. I highly recommend a hidden kill switch. Never leave anything that can be picked up quickly in plain view. Never leave a "loose change tray" in plain view. The locks on 1st gen rear sliding windows are useless. To any good thief the door locks are useless. Today's thieves couldn't hot wire a light bulb. The alarm and the club deter the inexperienced and the kill switch will stop most pro's. Nothing is guaranteed, I watched a Porsche 911 turbo dragged onto a flat bed with all 4 wheels locked up in less than 10 seconds, air horns blaring and lights wig wagging away... a clever installer can get very creative on the kill switch. I once built one for a motorhome that required the seat belt plugged in, the ash tray slid in, and the glove box open before the engine would start.

 

It sure is nice to live where the keys can be left in the ignition or you forget the truck is outside running for a few hours .

I gotta agree pack up and move although not practical in many cases

 

A hidden kill switch, or like what I did, a hidden push-to-start button. I have to insert the key and turn it to ON, but then reach down and press the button to start. Others have modified their cigarette lighter to be a push-to-start button. I also installed a switch elsewhere so I can revert back to the factory start if my wife or mechanic needs to drive it.

can you explain the tailgate lock. i know 2nd gens get their tailgates stolen but i don't think ours come off so easily.

 

He’s talking about a pop and lock. It’s a keyed locking tailgate handle. 1st gen tailgates do require hand tools to remove. It’s one of the many features that are stock on 1st gens but became “mods” on later gens.

 

Best way to avoid the potential theft of the whole truck is the fuel pump kill switch.. tap into the ground wire in the floor wire and install a switch. hide it, keep it away from the ignition area because that's where they'll look for tapped wires or switches.

to avoid it being broken into? since its illegal to wire the truck up to the home electrical to give them a nice shock, best bet to to park it in a well lit area and keep everything out of sight inside, but ultimately if they want something inside the truck, they'll take it.. typically with a broken window, at least the truck will still be there though
