But how fast are you going? Elevation? Hilly or flat? Etc etc etc all affect mpg

I did a cross-continental trip last year, and got anywhere from 10mpg to 30mpg dependent on various factors - but usually 18-19

MPG drops quick above 65 on these trucks - with the stick anyway

 

Manufacturing vehicles is a profit-based enterprise. There is no obligation to offer anything. If they didn’t want to manufacture manuals due to manufacturing efficiency, or could not profit from selling them, they just wouldn’t make them.

 

I’m about 70/30 highway/city but old man and drive like it. Rural area, not much stop and go traffic, seldom over 65mph.

 

You should avoid doing this with modern cars with charcoal canister emission systems. If you force fill the gas tank right up the filler neck, by “burping the tank” and getting a extra fuel in past normal shutdown, you can flood the Evap system with liquid fuel. It is only meant to handle vapours.

Learn from my mistake. You don’t want to hear what that magic pump, that runs a few hours after you park your truck, sounds like when it is running on an overfilled tank.

 

Slow down. Accelerate slower. Keep speeds under 65. Learn to coast when slowing down. Modern cars completely cut off fuel to the engine when coasting down from speed. It also saves your brake pads/shoes, plus your tires will wear longer.

And realize the Offroad will get worse fuel economy than a Limited for several reasons. Those being lack of a front airdam, bigger rearend, and tires.

 

Sliders and RCI are creating drag. How fast do you drive on the freeway. Above 65mph and MPGs drop quickly. Lots of hills hurt your mpg aswell.

 

I’ve tried to keep it at 65mpg and drive like a grandma. Minimal change in elevation. Try to drive the same in town. I have found the onboard mpg calculator to be very accurate. I’ve reset it and done highway only and still maxing at 15mpg. That is with cruise off as well so it doesn’t shift down 2 gears with the slightest change in elevation. The rack can’t be giving that much drag because it is only 12 inches high and does not stick out past the cab on top or sides. I expected to get better MPG than my 4Runner that is only a 5 speed. It’s pretty sad when a lifted 4Runner with sliders, bumper, winch, roof rack, and E tires is getting 18 and a basically stock Tacoma is getting 15 with the extra gear.

 

I can usually get two more gallons if I run it really slow. The best way to check it is top it off at the same pump on two different fill ups

 

I've got a an MT6 2018 sport with SL Wildpeaks and I just changed my psi from 30 cold to about 36 cold and got nearly 2-2.5mpg improvement. I'm still going to chalk test them and get them set properly. But I was intrigued by the result of something so simple. The rolling resistance is definitely noticeable in the butt dyno.

 

I managed this over the weekend coming back from a hike. 50/50 highway/surface streets. Tried to keep it on CC @ 65 as much as i could on the freeway. I usually average 22-25 mpg.

my eyebrows raised until I realized that was one short trip, and any good hike starts at a higher elevation than home I average about 20 with all the short city blocks and unsynchronized Portland stoplights

 

Yep same here, drove to Joshua Tree and averaged 18+ most of the day. Then gassed up in Palm Springs and recorded 26mpg to home. Wildly different numbers are suspicious but I am seeing the same thing on my daily drive. On the way to work the mileage is in the low teens and on the way home back in the low 20’s. Same flat boring route with different results and if anything I drive faster going home.

 

yeah it was slightly higher, maybe a 2k elevation change within 10 miles of the trailhead.

 

Getting between 13.5 and 14.7 on the highway. Have never seen above 16 on the highway. The truck never wants to shift out of 4th, especially with cruise control on. It gets a bit annoying. Running standard load 265/75/16, @ between 70-80 mph. Getting 18-19mpg in town. Wondering if ovTune would help?

 

It's a subjective argument. There are those in this forum that think OVTune is the second coming of christ, and then there are others who state the TSB reflash is a game changer, and then there others that are completely satisfied and happy with what they have. It's basically just a matter of opinion.

 

Really missing my 17 si regarding gas mileage. I was able to get 35mpg while racing at every stop light. I try my best to drive calm in the taco. Getting average of 15mpg. Lifted 2.5 inches, skid plate, sliders, 265/75r16. Dclb 4x4 OR (heaviest options).

That would be more valid if your fuel gauge was that close to empty.
I see numbers all over the place but my overall average when I fill is 20 mpg, all stock.
I’d like to put 255s on but like getting 20 mpg.

 

I have almost 1500 miles on my 2019 DCLB TRD Sport. I have been figuring out my gas mileage the old fashion way, miles divided by gallons and have been averaging 21.25 miles to the gallon. I am like high-fiving people in the street over that. My 2002 TRD off-road extended cab, manual transmission was averaging about 18.5 miles per gallon combined highway city driving. Both are V-6 engines. So while I am not seeing 30 like some of you I will take 21 1/4 and recognize I am driving a truck.

On The other hand, my wife’s 2019 Camry XSE four-cylinder gets high 30s on the highway and low 30s combined. So that’s our trip taking car.

as for the overfilling your gas tank, there is some truth to that. At 85,000 miles on my 2002 Tacoma check engine light came on I changed The manifold and exhaust EPA sensors and the light would go off for a few hundred miles and come back on. I finally figured out I must have destroyed the charcoal filter by over filling the tank and gas leaking into it. At 213,000 miles the check engine light was still on and the truck still running fine. But I did have to reset it every two years to go through inspection.

Lasty, now a days the M/T trucks are actually rated at lower MPH then the A/T trucks.
