Looks great! I want to do this same install. What wiring harness did you use to get it hooked into the factory plug down in the kick panel?

I did something similar but mounted in a Redarc specific backing plate. I also used a Tacoma specific Tekonsha wiring harness with a few minutes of solder work. Not the best photo, and I still need another blank. This backing plate came predrilled for the Redarc.

Looks good, I actually ordered the plate too. I decided to use the existing spot since I’m not adding any other switches.

I mounted mine near the q charger.

    Totally different controller though.

I’m rocking a WD hitch and Firestone airbags. The combo is not necessary but I use airbags without towing from time to time. They work well together towing as well. The WD hitch I bought allows me to tow safely with the tailgate down if I want to load up dirt bikes and haul the trailer. I bought the prodigy p3 based on some reviews here on TW and have been very impressed with it and recommend it myself. I’m pulling a 20ft Rpod 3100lbs dry. Approx 3800lbs loaded up. Tows great!

I installed a Reese Brake-Evn proportional controller this morning, I’m picking up a pop up trailer this week and figured it was time since it’s been in my shed for a couple months waiting for a reason.

Installed the Prodigy P3 where I’ve always put them. Right side down low. No issues.

The Curt Spectrum brake controller installs either by screwing it to a surface or sticking it to a surface. One can put it on any surface that will accept a screw or take the included 3M adhesive patch. Before I settled on the change cubby, I got some mounting ideas off of videos on Youtube and www.etrailer.com.

Did you do an install post? Why is the back of the controller all damaged (where 4 wires come out)?

Uh the controller is fine. I installed it in the cubby on the left side of the 3rd gen dash. The wires had to go somewhere, so I used my dremel with a cutoff wheel to open up a hole in the back of the cubby, hence the hole and marks.

I didn’t do an install post but it’s pretty straightforward.

Remove the kick panel and under dash panel. Plug in the Tekonsha harness to the stock plug behind the wiring harness put the second ground on the bolt under the dash:
    BF981F2B-997E-4D67-9495-7EA2441FFDA6.jpg

Pop the cubby out of the lower dash panel, remove it from the holder by removing the four Phillips screws on the back. Slide your controller in so you can mark where to cut the hole for the wires.
Cut the hole, slide the controller in, Mark where to drill holes for the mounting screws, remove the controller and drill the holes. If you did it right it should slide in and the holes will line up, so mount the controller using the screws, mount the cubby back on it’s panel, then back on the under dash panel, and finally click the wiring together, tucking it up underneath.

Read this entire thread, thank you everyone for all your information. I've got some great ideas from you all.
I have a question of the ease of manual braking. I have't towed much with brakes except for with a REDARC and it wasn't in view so I found it tough. With a Tekonsha 3 do you just adjust the lever to get to manual braking and is it easy to reach just jammed in the cubby? Thanks! -Fish

oh, sorry for reviving such an old thread!

It is an easy arms distance from driving position and not hard to manual ly break if you need to, although I never have needed to do it with what I haul. Here are some pics from different views. It is slightly out of view sitting in normal position but easy to find and reach. other show the lever when mounted like this.
