Lol, forgot to tighten the lug nuts all the way on both rear wheels of my Ford Mustang waaay back in the day. It lasted two days before it felt kind a sketchy....this was after blasting down the highway at 100+ several times. I took the first exit off the highway and boom.....driver's side rear wheel took off like a rocket! Several hundred yard walk to pick up the wheel and the several hundred yard walk of shame back to the car with it in hand. Put it back on as fast as I could and got the hell out of there. Flat spotted the drum brake and some low hanging sway bar bolts but had no issues beyond that in the three years I owned it after that.

I remember a few times we had some kid double gasket the oil filter on a few trucks and the customer gets half way home before noticing they have no oil. big oops. Never had to give someone a new motor though.

probably a good idea. I don't think dealers have to start a case if they think they can get everything done on their level without having corporate help take care of the warranty cost.

I remember when I double oil filter gasket'ed my 94 Civic a really long time ago when I was 23yrs old or so. What a mess. Fixed it on the side of the road, like 40 degrees out with 20mph winds. Fucking sucked. luckily my travel pack of junk I keep in my car has a 1qt of oil. not all oil leaked out but was probably missing more than 1/2.

Dude... the OP does not even know what an oil filter is. There are people like that, as a matter of fact the majority of people are like that now. You getting on here and spewing nonsense about not taking it to dealers is asinine. The truth is, dealers, especially for people like the OP, do a good job 99% of the time. What you read here is the 1% of the time because nobody ever posts about good shit.
Glad you have an alternative shop. Also glad you are a master mechanic who, just by observation, can instantly tell when somebody is doing it right or wrong.
Lastly, those free services are not free. We pay for them up front (vehicle margin) and you did too. Toyota depends on people like you to pay for something you do not use. That way, people like this OP can use your money to get stuff.

That one is interesting because they’ll claim interference with an officer performing his duty.

Ahhhh this happened to my 2014 2nd gen. The mechanic did not tighten my drain plug. I heard it when it fell out, bounced off the road and then under the bed. I pulled over and saw the last of my oil drain out.

The dealer supposedly had their master mechanic go through the truck and said it was fine. I said unacceptable, I wanted a new truck.

Ultimately I agreed not to post that Yelp review on the dealer I was thinking about. In exchange they gave me two thousand less than I paid for my 2014. So I drove that truck for three years for two grand. They sold me my 2016 for 5k less than list. At the time they were asking above list at all the dealers. I heard the service manager tell the sales manager, to "make the deal and charge his department for lost revenue".

I ended up writing a Yelp review and stated how the dealer messed up and fixed the problem to my full satisfaction.

Depending on the dealership, if it comes in on a hook, they'll write it up. I might think toyota would be good enough to do that, but I'm a Ford and Kia writer (former)

I think its been an issue for multiple PDs. My cop friends tell ME when/where the checkpoints are. But mostly to avoid the major traffic jam they always create.

No way 6 quarts leaked out "on the way home". There would be a mess under your truck. Tell them to show you where the oil splatters are. If none, they didn't put any oil in it! New engine. Stand your ground. Or do this: tell them you want to TRADE IT IN ON A NEW TRUCK. See how fast they scatter. Make it THEIR problem, not yours.

OP said there was a total mess of oil underside of the truck.

As for all the lawsuit posts... reminds me of the Jerky Boys. Sue Everyone! Punitive damages.
