So at a delima here. Ive really been doing alot of research into the 4x4 conversion and how much weight it is going to add to the truck. Its about an extra 225 pounds which is alot. That being said i need to lighten my current truck first before any more weight will be added. It will just be too much weight on the truck if i dont lighten it up. That being said im looking at getting a new front bumper in aluminium to save about 80lbs right off the bat. So it would be more like me driving around with the weight of my tent all the time which probably wont be that bad since there is no wind drag.

Would anyone be interested in my front bumper? Ill give you a great deal on it. Probably wont be pulling the trigger on anything for at least a month or 2.

Nope cause that would require all kinds of extra work that would cost a fortune. Transmission engine etc. Thats like atleast a 4 grand investment before labor lol

Man, I'm about to pick up a rear bumper for my Inferno or I'd be interested. Your tent/rack setup is heavy, I don't get the RTT craze, that's a lot of unnecessary weight to lug around, especially if it's your daily driver. When yall are up in your RTTs, we'll be in our hammock/tarp or ground tent set up, snug as a bug in a rug!

tried the whole ground tent thing and RTT is way more suited for me. I’m very picky on how I sleep. My body just won’t fall asleep. Plus Anna won’t sleep unless she’s away from the big lol. Was a win win.

The sleeping pad makes all the difference in a ground tent. A zero degree mummy bag helps a lot too! I guess that's all we've ever known, has been hammock and tent camping. We know the ins and outs of camping in the back country.

    Sounds like it's time for a V6 4x4!

What pad do you use? Our last trip was terrible, I've always been fine with foam pad that inflates a bit, maybe 1/2" thick, but man it sucked, my back, knees, ankles shoulders everything hurt bad. So much that I only went on one hike the entire week.

I've got this luxurious Field and stream large square sleeping bag. I hate those mummy bags, and this bad boy has kept me warm well below freezing.

I've been contemplating an rtt due to pain, but they're really not my thing.

We use a thermo rest Neo air sleeping pads. We backpack in to our camp spot, so lightweight is a must. The secret to comfortable tent camping? Dig out hip channels under your tent. Makes a huge difference from the flat ground. This way you can comfortably sleep on your side.

But if I'm car camping (vehicle at your camp spot) we'll bring inflatable air mattresses, comforters, pillows and the works.

I've been using the same thermarest since I was a kid, might be time to upgrade,t neo ones look much better. We haven't done any backpacking in a few years, mostly we do just winter camping. Backpacking was pretty much all me and my dad did when I was young, just a tarp, pad and crappy old bag. Now there's no way, I want a tent!

That's not a bad idea, I'm gonna try that, though I change positions constantly while sleeping.

I've been looking at foam mattresses, we've tried the air ones and they work well when it's warm, but when it gets freezing they're no fun.

If you'll cover the air mattress with a space blanket and then a comforter, then you'll have a warm, soft, place to sleep!

I worked as a backpacking guide for the Boy Scouts over the summer and my only advice is if it will be cold/weight doesn’t really matter make sure you get an insulated one with a good R value (over 3 is good).

The neo air x lites are the lightest ones you can get but I am not a huge fan because they are loud every time I move around.

I had 2 different REI flash pads but they both busted on the inside so they had a big bubble on one side (bad QC).

I have been using a klymit static V for the past few years because they sent it to me to test out a prototype valve and I like it but if I bought one today it would probably be one of the Big Agnes mats because they are thicker and a good value.

If you don’t backpack much or weight isn’t a big issue when you do I highly recommend an oversized pad as long as it will fit in your tent.
