I mean I don't really have a second ride, for all I know it could snow three feet tomorrow. I'm just cheap as fuck and don't like anyone else touching my truck. I'll probably end up freezing my fingers off by the end of the week either way, riding the bike in freezing weather and trying to replace a clutch in the driveway .

Would you rate the job harder than leaf springs, coilovers, and lca's?

Sounds about right. Transmission out is usually $1,000. That's what my flexplate fix cost.

Eh, harder.... not really, it's just nuts and bolts. But it might take you longer and you should really mind your torque specs. Oh and extracting the pilot bearing sucks up time and you have to be a bit creative with the clutch set tool. But watch a clutch video on a toyota truck or two and you'll know what you need to know

You got the clutch done recently? I'm surprised it made it this long after Pismo

$1200 ain't bad for CA shop pricing on a clutch job assuming you didn't provide the parts

    Edit - nm

Ugh. That does not make me feel better.

Once that happens, how do you deal with it? FNG question on trans removal...

I cracked my A340E bellhousing trying to get the transmission off the engine because the dowel pins were seized.

Getting it off is hard. Now aligning the dowel pins back on, that's difficult.

Okay cool thanks, I did one on my 89 pickup many years ago and I remember it being a huge pain in the ass, but I was also only twenty and doing brakes seemed like the end of the world back then:facepalm:

You want the professional answer or the get er done answer? They're both similar really, one is lots of finicky tapping and wiggling.... my solution is get a ratchet strap around a frame crossmember and the trans and get some tension on it while wiggling, casually tighten and wiggle until it comes apart (often explosively.... so uh, maybe have a pillow or two incase you strapped the trans to the jack poorly)

Ditto on the timing belt. Out of curiosity I'm going to ask the 4x4 shop I'm getting my alignment done at tomorrow what they'd charge for labor on a timing belt. I'm guessing it's going to be close to a grand.

No, I got mad at the truck and started shaking the transmission jack until it came off.
