well my #5 & #6 piston rings are toast. boo. so to get back on the trail i'm going to swap a used engine in for now and probably tear apart and build my current one.

what i would like to know is what years and if 4x4 vs 4x2 or AT vs MT matters.

ill be swapping my S/C and injectors onto it and likely doing kelford cams while its on a stand.

looking at LKQ online and car-part.com and just want to know what im looking for.

    thanks,
    Garrett

Sorry I don't have an answer, but can I ask how long (miles) the S/C was on there before this problem showed up and how many miles the engine has total?

I don't believe it matters whether it is a 4x2, 4x4, Mt or at. Most of those compatibility issues are with the transmission/differentials.

S/C was dealer installed at about 3k miles. the engine has 36k. issue started about 5k miles ago.
thats what i believe, was hoping for conformation. i have a line on a 2015 with 50k miles close to me.

It’s my understanding that the 2x4 and 4x4 oil pans are different.

Do you monitor your AFRs with a wideband AFR gauge? Sounds like it may have been running lean due to the supercharger which caused the damage. 1st gens are notorious for this when supercharged if you don't run the appropriate fuel mods (7th injector, methanol, etc)

Just would hate to see the same thing happen to the next motor that goes in

Only difference is exhaust manifolds, and valve covers have extra tabs to hold the SAI valves. Short block 1gr's are all interchangeable. Get the lowest mileage newest one in your price range and call it good.

Surprised you messed up cylinders. 1gr's are pretty robust. Whats compression numbers?

    thats a good note.

i do remember seeing that, the one im looking at is a 4x4. but if i cant get that i could always put my pan on a 2x4 i would assume.

I do now and have proper tuning to prevent this, but didnt until 5k miles ago, damage was already done.

Yeah, swapping pans is a non-factor. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 2wd motor if the price/condition was right, as any accessory bolted on could be used from your existing engine.

Its pretty likely your supercharger caused this so why put it back on the new engine?

He said a few posts up that it wasn't properly tuned until about 5k miles ago, but the damage was done by then. As long as he runs it with the right tune on the new engine it'll be fine.

    im a glutton for punishment.
there are tons of people running them successfully and now i have known proper tuning and the ability to monitor it i'm banking that it'll be ok this time around.

A well tuned and properly done supercharger setup won't risk premature failure or damage to the engine...a poor setup however can mean a quick death as shown here. Running lean is a recipe for a quick early death for an engine

Was it a stock SC'd setup or were you running a smaller pulley / headers / intake etc on a stock TRD ecu?

Wow. Was there a CEL shortly after the install?
I’ve not heard many issue running OEM TRD S/C.
Sounds like something didn’t go right during the install?

@Torspd may be able to help us understand how something like this could hanppen?

Thats very odd! Stock tune with a stock setup is VERY conservative. Should be a dealer warranty at that low of miles?
