2017 PAINT ISSUES

I have the exact same truck and almost the exact same problem in the exact same area !! I'm at work currently but I will try and post pictures when I get home or first ting tomorrow .

 

Is this just for the 2017's or have any other years had issues?

 

Far as I know it's 2017's only. I will say I swapped hoods to get the scoop hood with a guy who had a 2016 and the hood did not show any problems, just my roof and fenders.

 

I have a 2016 and I have had no problems yet. My truck was one of the first and built in 2015

 

Cab roof of my 2017 Blazing Blue TRDOR has the same paint problem! Waiting for dealership's response to my complaint.

 

Same problem with my 17. The Toyota dealer got Toyota to repaint my entire truck under warranty. They included sanding all paint down to metal....

 

So, my truck will be headed back to the body shop one more time but probably not the last. This time the paint failed on the drivers side bed and they are only going to paint that panel. After talking at length to the shop manager it seems that all of our trucks were painted during the same month at the same factory and they have no idea of why there is a reaction.

 

That's crazy how Toyota isn't consistent on how they address this too. I'm picking mine up today from the dealer after they repainting everything but the bumpers. Post #301 was the state of mine before going in for this.

 

Passenger side was flaking last April. Toyota ended up painting just the affected area. Now my driver side is starting to flake as well. Toyota said I am out of my warranty by a month not by mileage and are unsure if they will be able to fix this side. Are you serious Toyota???

 

What month and what factory is your truck ? Thanks .

It is a 2017. I believe it was made in baja Feb 2017

 

Toyota said they will cover this side as a “good deed”. They won’t even cover a rental car while my truck is in the shop. They said they are repairing it outside the warranty. Like I said before they knew about this issue the last time it happened to the passenger side. Toyota needs to own up for a crappy paint job. I still haven’t dropped my truck off yet I’m still trying to fight the $40 a day rental they are not willing to pay.

 

2002 tundra and a 2008 Highlander both had clearcoat peel off in the first couple of years. Hopefully this new truck has better paint. Not holding my breath

 

Toyota will only fix one area they wanna fight me on the rest. Fine I like to fight lol.

 

Your truck is a 16 . Is it out of warranty ?

 

Yeah by 900 miles. They are trying to say it’s from abuse. Mechanic and guy working the front desk a well as body shop guy (Toyota shop) all say it’s a bad factory clear coat.

 

2017 BBP made in Mexico. Part of the bad clear coat batch. Toyota bought this truck back and the owner bought a new tacoma.

 

Wow, that is horrible!

 

As I've said many times before....Toyota paint...pay your money, take your chances.
Has never been their strong suit.
