Welded a thick washer on the end of an axle for a disc I’m working on.

Just got done with a prototype for the powdercoater. They want to burn off some fixtures and be able to use the forklift to get it in and out of the oven.

It had it all, horizontal, vertical, top, and overhead welds. Fun! :D

Audible on the prototype. Had the customer come look at it and bring some fixtures. We brainstormed it and he said it would be better for the support to be in the middle.

Glad I get paid by the hour and he designed it.

Makes sense to have the support in the middle .

You can hang parts on from both sides

Hey fellas, I have a Hobart 210 mig welder that is about 2 years old and seen maybe ten pounds of wire through it. Within five minutes turning the machine off, changing wire, and turning it back on my wire speed motor seems to have died. Anyone have experience in this area? I can’t find a replacement, Hobart hasn’t gotten back to me, and of course it broke down in the middle of a project that needs to be finished yesterday. I’ve checked the motor connectors and they don’t look burnt or have obvious signs of failure. Any advise is appreciated

Do you have the part number? Maybe find out if other brands use the same part.

I know Air Gas is really good at sourcing parts. See if Miller units have the same motor.

These are the only numbers I see on the motor and assembly looks like this. I can’t find anything searching the part numbers. Is this a common part to go up?

Have you tried hitting that switch? Looks like spool gun is selected. Never used one but the way I understand it is the wire and motor are in the gun itself, so it’d makes sense that the one in the welder isn’t feeding. Maybe you bumped it while changing wire.

Yea, I thought by how abruptly it stopped working I had to have ducked something up. I unplugged my gun, flipped all the switches and tapped on the motor, but still nothing.

That motor sure looks exactly like the motor I replaced in my spool gun.

It does. Is that a pretty universal motor to your knowledge?

I can't tell you. It wouldn't surprise me if they used similar parts.

That’s the idea. He said, “why didn’t I think of that when I designed it? “ :D

The Hobart manual has a nice parts diagram with all the part numbers listed.

    Item #43
    Part # 217 778 (MOTOR, gear)

That looks like what you are showing. Not endorsing this seller but if so here is one
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Miller-Hobart-217778-Motor-Gear-16-VDC-With-Leads-/231560853732

For the price i would try testing the old motor first though.

Then I would bust out the manual and run through the "setup" portion again just ot make sure everything is setup right (like having the spool gun/mig switch set to mig :) )

Your switch on the inside is switched to spool gun instead of MIG gun. Switch that back to MIG gun and it’ll work

Edit : saw that @EatSleepTacos already said this. I have the same machine for my backup welder and I’ve done that multiple times and that fixed it

Hobart has a 5/3/1 warranty on their machines too so I know it sucks if it’s effed up but you should be able to call Hobart and give them the serial number and they should be able to direct you to an authorized repair place near you for warranty. I had a capacitor pop in mine at 7 months and I called up and brought it to a local repair shop and had it back to me in perfect condition in a week and completely under warranty.

bummer! Sorry man. I realized after I posted that Randy had already suggested that and you had already tried that solution. I got excited to help since I’ve had that issue before haha. Hopefully you get it taken care of soon!
