    Hello everybody...
This is my first thread since joining. So here goes:
In June 2020 I purchased a 2015 Toyota Tacoma Limited Edition 4x4 with AT. I have had Toyota trucks in the past and they have always been manual transmission. So having and AT is new to me. Well, the AT has been shifting great, with no noises EXCEPT NOW THAT IS COLD. This morning it was 8 degrees and on the way to work there was a fairly loud thump noise when the gears were shifting. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this a cold weather thing it just does because the AT fluid is cold? It did go away after driving it for a while. Pretty concerned it only had 58,000 miles on it, and I bought it from a dealer in PA(I live in upstate NY) and the service records do show that it has had regularly scheduled tranny service. Anyone?

Sounds pretty much normal to me. That first shift into top cog on a cold day is kinda rough. There’s a whole lot goin’ on with that first shift. I just back off the throttle & let it do its thing. It won’t happen again unless you shutdown & it cools again.

Not sure, I haven’t actually done that. Maybe you could reach out to one of the moderators.

Welcome to TW! I would guess that the fluid just needed to warm up a bit. Drive the truck lightly for the first 5 minutes or so on cold days like that.

Well, thanks everybody so far I have gotten some really great feedback. In addition, I called a local auto repair shop which specializes in AT and a mechanic says “try letting it warm up cor about ten minutes before driving especially on cold days” it makes sense. Will do so tommorow

This happened to me on my last tacoma (2012) only when it was cold out. At 60k I had the trans flushed and changed the filter (at the dealer) never happened again after that regardless of the temp. Not saying it’ll solve your problem, since you said the trans has been serviced, but it did work on mine.
