Actually it's pretty common for mule or development cars to take parts from other mfg to make sure their secrets are not found out before they finish testing or development. So... it's still just my hypothesis.

The FJ Cruiser died because it had 2-doors only. There's no market for 2-door SUVs in North America. The 4-door Wrangler accounts for 85% of Wrangler sales, which was why the 4-door JL came out half a year earlier than the 2-door. Seems like Ford knows what they're doing with a cushy-riding IFS 4-door Bronco with tiny-ass P-metric tires:

Not sure if joking. The rear suspension is different from the Wrangler, which has shocks behind the axle.

Interestingly the rear axle has a single track bar (like the Wrangler and 4Runner) instead of the global Ford Everest's watt's linkage. Better articulation this way, but more side-to-side scrub when the axle moves up and down.

Ford Everest rear axle for comparison:

Be a shame to put the Bronco name on a vehicle with those dinky tires/wheels. Might as well call it the Bronco II all over again and make the pussification complete.

FJ was prado, but it was never meant to run for more than 5 years, it was amazing that it got the 2nd gen 4.0 and it was made well past 2014 in some countries. It by all accounts was a success.

Toyota is in it to make money, not beat others at a low reward game. The Land Cruiser pickup only exists in some countries due to insane costs and limited demand.

The Bronco is 100% IFS and rear multilink solid axle. It will do well, but won't be a barn burner like the Wrangler or Tacoma in their respective segments.

Actually the tires appear to be 32" (255/75-17), taller but narrower than the Tacoma's stock tires. Not great, not horrible: https://s.aolcdn.com/os/ab/_cms/2020/01/21134710/2021-ford-bronco-spy-shots-16.jpg

The photographed vehicle may also be a base model, with higher-end trims getting larger tires. The base model Jeeps also looked lanky off the lot:

And I believe this vehicle is in fact a successor to the Bronco II, which was a compact SUV. The successor to the full-size Bronco is the Expedition.

The pussification will be with the "baby" Bronco in the pipeline, based on the Ford Escape...

Those access doors aren't taken seriously by anyone trying to fit adults in the second row. They're as useful as the ones on the Tacoma access cab - good for throwing small cargo items in the back.

Brother has a Fj and it’s awesome, every time we see each other I mention if he moves over seas again I’ll take it. Awesome vehicle, if it was out now I think it would sell well, hitting around recession and gas prices was rough

Looks good but haven’t read/seen/heard anything about it. Any major points on issues? I would hope it’s better than the last or at least more reliable. Helped my brother in law get a new car and drove his old blazer back for it to constantly overheat on the way back. That car has electrical gremlins like crazy too. Not a big fan of them

Is it part of a global frame? Or does it get its own frame?

I suspect it's a new design that may be shared with the next-gen Ford Ranger coming whenever (2022?)

Note the anti-intrusion frame stubs close to the front suspension, to improve performance in small-overlap front crash tests.

Those LCA cam tabs have even less reinforcement than the stock Tacoma tabs...

Not ideal for sure, It's nice that they are there though. That said I'd buy an Xterra or 4runner over an FJ Cruiser and the full size rear doors are part of that.
