Hate to post another wheel noise thread. Truck is making a noise that seems to be coming from the front right tire/wheel. Initially I thought it was road noise from the old GY Authorities I've had on there for close to 80k miles, but I had new tires put on today and its still there, and maybe even more noticeable than before.

The best way I can describe it is as if there was a subtle flat spot on a tire, causing a low to medium "wop wop" sound that starts basically as soon as the truck rolls and picks up with speed. There's little to no vibration, it's present in 4H, N, and when I the hit the brakes, and doesn't seem to change if I try to turn/load one side more than the other.

Truck is an 07 V6 Sport, currently has about a 2.5" lift, Falken Wildpeaks (new), and the U joints, carrier bearing, and rear wheel bearings were replaced about a month ago. Front diff has the ECG bushing, installed by ECG at their shop. This sound has been present for over a year, and I always thought it was tire noise, but since they replaced them today and it's still there it's obviously something else. My first thoughts are wheel bearing; I've had one go bad before and this noise isn't the same higher freq. humming and doesn't change when turning/loading one side. Just wanted to see if anyone had other ideas or experienced something similar before I put some new hub assemblies on and see what happens. Thanks.

    bump...

Jacked it up today and no obvious wheel bearing related play in the front wheels or play in the CVs.

Still, I think it might be the wheel bearings or CVs. Anything else out there that can cause a low/med freq sound like that?

I have a similar noise along with some vibration. I checked for play and had none, but noticed a grinding noise when spinning the wheel. So I removed the caliber and rotor to eliminate the brake pads. I spun the hub and it sounded horrible! Check your wheel bearings this way.

I have this exact thing. I got it after taking the truck off-road and through a lot of standing water and sand, so I assumed it was debris in the differential. I had the whole thing drained and refilled and still have the noise. I also think it's a bearing issue now, but the mechanic I took it to can't hear it. Explaining the noise to someone who never drove the truck prior to the noise is impossible.

Yeah I know what you mean; I tried getting video of it from inside but it doesn't pick it up distinctly enough from the wind/road noise. Mine almost sounds like a softer version of an old 2 blade helicopter spinning up and running.

*Disclaimer: the truck is also at 311k miles, so I'm not surprised that it makes a few noises from time to time

Mines at 25k, so I'd prefer to find this and fix it before I do costly damage. I'll have the front wheel bearings checked by a different mechanic. Thanks!

After I lifted my truck and got 33s, and bought a 17’ trailer (3200 lbs) all at once March 2019, I noticed an intermittent clicking noise and felt the truck shimmy when making sharp down hill left turns from drivers side front axle area. I thought it was the trailer pushing me so I made sure I engaged the breaks so the trailer brakes not just engine break. However, later with no trailer on and caring a little speed on same windy roads along coast, I heard and felt the same thing. Visual inspection shows nothing. Mechanic did a quick visual at CV boots but saw nothing.

    Any ideas?

So to follow up, I ended up checking the front bearings and CVs and couldn’t find anything wrong. I didn’t want to start throwing parts at it and have been busy at work, so took it in to a local shop. They initially thought rear wheel bearing, but once they got in there they found some kind of small debris that was rubbing and causing the noise. Didn’t get to see it since I was at work, but no major fix needed. Picked up the truck and it’s smooth and quiet.
