Yes, on a scale you will reduce the weight on the front wheels. But to what effect? I’ll run the calculations below just for fun, but the only reason I bring it up is the danger of the mass creating lateral force.

I’m guessing that the sand’s center of mass would be about 2’ behind the rear axle. I found someone posted the weights on their truck with a full tank of gas was 2,680 on the front axle and 2,000 on the rear. I’ll use these figures as “empty”. Then look at 200 pounds over the rear axle then 200 pounds 24” behind the rear axle (tailgate).

weight X arm = moment,
Moment / weight = CG,
Moment / arm = weight

Empty:
((2,680) X 1) + ((2,000) X 128)) = 258,680 (moment)
258,680 / 4,680 = 55.27” (center of mass)
or 54.27” behind the front axle
2,680 Front
2,000 Rear

200 #s over rear axle:
((2,680) X 1) ((2,000) X 128) + ((200) X 128)) = 284,280 (moment)
284,280 / 4,880 = 58.25” (center of mass)
or 57.25” behind the front axle
2,660 Front
2,220 Rear
Even directly over the rear axle, the weight shifts the center of mass rearward reducing weight on the front axle.

200 #s 24” behind the rear axle:
((2,680) X 1) ((2,000) X 128) + ((200) X 152)) = 289,080 (moment)
289,080 / 4,880 = 59.24” (center of mass)
or 58.24” behind the front axle
2,622 Front
2,258 Rear

i can crunch better numbers if someone can tell me how many inches behind the rear axle this weight would sit.

 

Damn that sucks... what a major problem on a best selling Toyota. I wonder what a fix is before there is a problem? Now I’m paranoid!

Tires are Cooper ST Maxx in 255/80/17. Lift is the OME BP-51s with a 1/4” spacer on the driver side.

LOL! Yeah, the youtube videos give you a false sense of how difficult it is. "Just stretch it a bit and use this rubber things to smooth it out. Easy."

Glad I'm not alone in this kind of debacle. Plastidipping the mirrors seems the better candidate. Looks good on your rig!

 

Like others have said check with your dealership, look into warranty as well. There are other parys of truck that are covered passed the basic 3/36 we get. If they don't provide you anuthing then contact that dea;ers serice Rep, and Toyota directly. The old saying the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

 

Either preventatively replacing the seal or caulking around the light outside.

 

move already ran it all the way up to corporate but no luck. They said it wouldn’t be covered. They opened me a case number and I even referenced a case number by another TW member that had the same issue and was helped and they wouldn’t help me.

 

It's a Harbor Freight motorcycle jack. Less than a hundred bucks last time I checked.

Put a big sign in the back of the truck saying _______dealership sold me this truck and won’t fix it. Drive it all over town and park it where everyone can see it. Bet they are quick to get you in and fix it for free.
Edit: threaten them with a social media release. You know one good customer tells one person about service, one bad customer tells ten people about bad service.
Get it fixed and get another Tacoma from another dealer.

Hmmm. The problem that I have is that I have so much "stuff"now that the last thing that I need at this point of my life is more stuff! It's time for me to start getting rid of all or most of the things that I've acquired over a lifetime. But for $100 it might be worth considering.

Mama's gonna have a fit if I come home with one. I guess I could just hide it behind some other stuff until I'm ready to use it........, and I do have a bike that I want to restore once I retire.

Here's the thing about stuff. I'm the last surviving member of my family. I have my Mother's stuff, my Father's stuff, my Brothers stuff, my Son's (who is in CO.) stuff, my Wife's stuff, my stuff and Rileys stuff. I have seven "stuffs" in a two stuff house!
The last thing I need is more stuff!!
