With that radiator, I need to get that clamp and lower hose squared away ASAP. I drove across the bay today (about a 40 min drive with traffic), getting to the destination - damn I could smell coolant when I climbed out of the truck. No leaks mind you but I could smell it.

 

when you do it make sure the aluminum on the inlet and outlet of the engine is clean. i use scotchbrite pads to make sure theres no corosion or anything.. if they look pitted. replace them. (doubt thats an issue for you though)

 

good deal. will watch for it. was planning on cleaning the pink crusties off the pipe but the scotchbrite pad sounds better than a wire brush (inlet - thermostat housing).

What is your take on that Lucas Oil Stabilizer additive?

im sure its fine. i love lucas products. but honestly its a toyota with bucket and shim valvetrain. the damn thing can run on next to no oil. why waste your money.

tundras idle oil pressure is like 10 psi min. the gauge is damn near at the bottom. tacomas are the same.

Do you like Relleno de papa? My mother-in-law could make some of the best that I have ever eaten.

 

I've used the one in this picture to bleed some SOB clutch fluid system. Extended a clean plastic line over the hard plastic stock line to fit the bleeder nipple.

Comes in handy for just about any type of engine liquid. Be sure to get one that you can replace the vacuum diaphragm part of the pump and the line plugs. Those will go out long before the plastic container or plunger gives up. I wish I had bought the better model. This is just the basic Mityvac model.

It just takes some creativity to figure out how to use it. It is a shame the ATF fill tube has a bend in it that prevents it from sliding down the tube to extract fluid.

I have actually used it to extract engine oil from an oil pan on an engine that likes to spray oil all over everything underneath. Once I get 95% of the oil out using the extractor, then I finish it off by releasing the drain plug. By then there is so little pressure that it slowly leaks out without soaking everything.

I actually used it "very carefully" years ago to evacuate a fuel tank before removal.

Its great for lawnmowers and lawn equipment that can be a pain.

I need to buy a new one or get the pump diaphragm fixed on mine.

Side note. Stainless steel clutch lines are a nice enhancement to any MT setup.

 

Near disaster for the Land Rover yesterday. A runaway truck plowed into the Range Rover and slammed it the Land Rover.

For sure. Reminds me of the time I had a parked car that got hit by a runaway boat. Some people were pulling a boat down the road and the ball broke off of the trailer hitch and the safety chains broke. The boat and trailer shot across a parking lot and crashed into my car. When I came out, I'm like WTF happened? They were nice and left a note. I didn't see the note until after I got into the car to drive away.

 

Wow, that's bizarre luck too. I could imagine being all worked up with that spineless lowlife that wrecked your car and then get in the car and seeing the note and oh.....they're sorry.... Okay fine I can't be upset with you if you're sorry

 

I'm not enamored with the upward sweep of the hoops. I jockeyed mine around (cut some off the upright portion) to get them level across.
