I don't really know where to ask this, but maybe one of you can shed some light on this for me. I was visiting family in GA and driving around that area. I received my very first speeding ticket ever (going 76 mph in a 55 ~ but the officer wrote it as me going 69 mph). Do I do online traffic school for GA or CA? I really don't want the point on my record if I can avoid it.

Out of state tickets can vary... most of the time it's just a fine and no point on your record here. At least this has been my experience with them. Some states will share info, but most are seperate entities and do their own thing.

Since Georgia is not a member of the Driver's License Compact, out-of-state traffic tickets will not usually appear on your driving record. ... In other words, even if you are a Georgia driver, do not ignore your out-of-state traffic tickets.Jun 20, 2019
    This is Georgia

    Edit this is cali
The California DMV will put one point on your driver's license record if they find out about an out-of-state traffic ticket you received.

Yup, some states share, some don't. The last one I got was in new Mexico on a Indian reservation. Cutting over from the 40 to the 25 via the 6. He had me dead to right at 75 on a two lane road. Did the old dukes of hazard 180 on the road to get me.

So since GA is not with the Driver's Licence Compact they won't report to CA? I'm just wondering how CA would find out and if it is worth my time to just do a traffic school to be safe?

The GA State Troopers were out in force on Thanksgiving weekend. I think I saw about 6 other cars get pulled over after my encounter. Still pretty bummed about it, really enjoyed that squeaky clean record haha

The ticket is $120, would hiring a lawyer be an economical solution to this?

I don't think so if it's just 120 bucks. Just pay it and be done with it. Be thankful its wasn't chp. That fine would probably be triple that plus all the bs with points and insurenxs rates. You got caught in a ticket zone that travelers get.... it's all a money game to them. Give them the funds and they will leave you alone.

It’s been about 15 years since I last did it, but 4 times in my adult life I’ve been able to call the DA’s office myself and offer to pay a higher fine for them to change the ticket to a NMV. It’s worked every time for me. I’ve realized that the DA would rather you plead guilty to a NMV and pay an increased fine, rather than waste their time in court w/ me. Win/Win for both.

    Paging @BandanaBerg @Airdog

1st question: how much extra weight do you have? Winch? Bumpers? Sliders? Bed rack? RTT? You get the idea.

2nd question: do you live in the hills or flatlands?

    3rd question: do you tow?

I'm on 34s, no winch, no armor, no mountains regularly, no trailer, camping gear is ~500 lbs. I manage well enough without a regear. I won't win any races, and my tranny doesn't enjoy cruise control, but I haven't been able to justify ~$1k for gears yet. An extra inch of tire plus 1 more variable I listed means 4.10s at a minimum would be warranted.

    #1 yes to all

#2 It’s hilly where I live but not mountain type. Though I drive thru the mountain areas to get to the desert.
    #3 never towed anything.

IMO Don’t even bother with 4.10s it’s hardly worth it from the stock 3.73s. 4.56 or 4.88s and you’ll be very happy. I’m on 4.88s myself.

Is the regear necessary to do small trails/ go up mountains without damaging the transmission

I wouldnt say its necessary. Personally I didnt regear till until my rear end blew up. But it was a Side gear (spider gear) that sheared on mine...so I did a regear since it was being taken apart anyways.
