K question guys so I decided to run the 4 low to break it in . I put it in 4 low would not engage .finally got it to engage so I ran a few feet .stopped and had truck in neutral went to 4h would not go out of 4low so I put it in 2 wheel drive heard a clunk and it engage back to 2wd .A little worried that I heard that clunk I didn't go very far maybe a few feet and stopped the truck .Anything I need to be concerned about ?? I tried it a second time again 4low not engaging got it to work a after a few times .this time I was able to switch from 4low to 4high then 2wd no weird sounds or smells (there was no smells the first time I did it ) . what u guys think still breaking in truck is new with only 800 miles or should I bring it up with the dealer ??
    thanks for the inputs .

You can generally hear but not smell 4wd engage. This is normal....

It’s normal. It takes a bit of finesse to get it to go quick and smooth.

I don’t have a Manuel so can’t really offer help but my auto did not want to come out of 4 lo the first time I used it, drove back and forth, finally disengaged, tried it a few more times seems ok

I've found the slope/angle of my truck plays into whether or not the 2WD/4HI/4LOW switch is "timely" or not

Also there is typically a "clunk" when switching 2WD/4HI/4LOW, in my experience. I'm no mechanic but I'm guessing it comes from "engaging / disengaging" whatever it does when you switch between drive modes

Must stop and pause exiting 4Lo. (And entering) Once I started doing this no issues.

    Smell? No.

Ah there it is, use it some more and itll loosen up and go in easier. Make sure you use 4hi once a month for 10 miles, this is in the manual.

Not surprising there was some stubbornness using 4LO for the very first time. Gears, synchronizers and other things are all meshing for the first time. The first few times I went to 4LO, the clunks were much more aggressive. After more engagements and disengagements, it barely makes a sound now.

I shifted from 4HI to 2WD while parked once, and had a real nasty clunk when the front diff ADD shift fork finally busted the connection loose. Now, I always switch in or out of 4WD while moving, but without any throttle input. That way the parts are moving, and there's no real tension on the driveline while shifting. Much mo' betta.

I believe there are also notes on the visor regarding this.

Not sure why you would smell anything but clutch as you have a manual. Also how fast are you going from 2wd to 4lo? that could take longer. I've usually already been in 4hi for a while before i switch to 4lo and it takes almost no time, same when going back. But yes...

Stopped, clutch in (all the way).

The neutral thing is for A/T trucks.

every time mine hasn't gone, its because it isn't *quite* all the way down. an extra nudge and it flips right in.

Clunk is good, you know if worked.
Swell is likely brakes as a coincidence of the back and forths.

    Lots of sail boat fuel
You're going to have a blast with the rear lock too.

    But it'll be OK!
