I considered that. The material is good to 350f it being under the oil pan i dont think it will see anything hot.

 

Right?? All that's on the back of those plastic bins is a slice of carpet looking foam too. It's amazing how much noise that little piece of fabric stops.

 

Picked up this bad boy last night for $400. Going to invest a little money into it to color match it and do some minor repairs on it. Should look like new once I'm done!

 

You have to remember that sheet metal is like a drum skin. Any sound waves are actually amplified as they hit the outside wall of the cab. Those waves come inside unless blocked by something designed to absorb the waves. A loose foam fabric will absorb sound and not allow it to pass thru like metal will. Dynamat (and others) attach a thick polymer to sheet metal which dampens the waves or stops them as they try to resonate. Ideally, you want to stop the metal from resonating and then kill any waves that make it through the metal.

I haven't used that specific tent but over the 2019 year I used my Kodiak version of it. Overall I was pretty happy with it. I have since bought a RTT over the holidays but have yet to take it out. The Bed style tents aren't too bad if not interested in a RTT and don't want to sleep on the ground. The kind of camping you do or are interested in doing will determine the kind of setup for you. If you're not looking to move around much once camp is set up, the bed tents will work just fine. If you want to be more mobile RTTs and trailers will probably be better but cost more. I bought a 4x6 foam floor pad from the hardware store, cut it to shape on the bed like it was a bed mat. On top of that I have used moving blankets and a full size mattress topper. Wasn't too bad but definitely a hard surface still. Also used a full size air mattress which ended up being much better. A standard full is ever so slightly too wide for the wheel wells so I just slightly under inflated it and body weight will keep it tight.

 

How much did they charge you to install it if you dont mind me asking?

yeah i think that its going to be just fine! They do have some nice brushless motor ones now though. But they are around $240.

Yeah just make sure you have enough room! Its got 1/4",3/8" & 1/2" drive in both shallow and deep sockets

Realized my starts were getting a tad slow. Using the OBD Fusion app, battery is resting at 11.6v. Figure I save some money and bring this battery back. Ill be using this charger for a camper setup later on too.

 

Picked up some Bosch quiet cast rotors today. Noticed that they do not the screw holes to help remove rotor. Anyone have any 2nd gen experience with this brand?

Score a Centurion Topper already paint to match my truck. It was installed on a Taco the exact same year and color as mine, it was for sale at a user car lot. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to ask and here we are now. Great find since that is the only other truck i have seen in town that is Nautical Blue. Dang color was only available for 2 years, 12 and 13. The skewp hood and rear bumper i had to buy from the dealer and get them paint since i couldn't find them used.

 

I am on my second set of those rotors. OEM's lasted till 126k but then were pulsing under load or heavy braking for quite a while so they really should have been replaced sooner. Then switched to Bosch for 42k with fresh OE pads. Then at 168k went with Bosch again when I replaced brake pads for fresh OE pads again. Currently at 196k so only 28k on the latest ones so far. I only replaced the first set of Bosch rotors because they were cheap and easy enough to change and thought I'd get longer life out of the pads. Not sure why but the OE pads seemed to wear faster on Bosch rotors since I only got 42k miles out of them. Maybe I did not bed them properly but I followed the internet instructions and they seemed smooth throughout their life. So not really sure if improper install by me or the combo of Bosch rotors and OE pads.

 

The topic of bedding in brake pads is an interesting one to me. I don't doubt the benefits of transferring pad material onto the rotor, but I also doubt that many (if any) shops go through that process when you pay a shop to replace rotors and pads. So I don't know if I fully see the merit.

 

Little bits. Installed locks (not bad for a $12 Amazon warehouse deal) -- and finally replaced that damn acorn nut on the engine cover. I've had a vacuum cap over the stem forever, but I got tired of it and bought a ten pack of little M6x1.0 acorn nuts from amazon for $6 instead of paying Toyota $15 for the part direct from them.
