What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

The topic of bedding in brake pads is an interesting one to me. I don't doubt the benefits of transferring pad material onto the rotor, but I also doubt that many (if any) shops go through that process when you pay a shop to replace rotors and pads. So I don't know if I fully see the merit.

 

Little bits. Installed locks (not bad for a $12 Amazon warehouse deal) -- and finally replaced that damn acorn nut on the engine cover. I've had a vacuum cap over the stem forever, but I got tired of it and bought a ten pack of little M6x1.0 acorn nuts from amazon for $6 instead of paying Toyota $15 for the part direct from them.

I helped my brother do the brakes on his wife's SUV a few weeks ago. Below is the break in procedure. I would be really surprised if there are any shops out there doing this. Quite frankly it would have been very difficult to accomplish if I didn't live on a country road. There is no way you are getting this done in town, if you follow the last step of not stopping for 5 minutes. Without breaking the law.

 

Removed my steering rack and mailing back to rock auto. I killed one, they sent me a warranty replacement and I killed that one too. So they said “nah fam. No more racks for you. Here’s a full refund though.” Each one lasted about a year. So now I’ll go oem in hopes it lasts longer. If not, tundra rack upgrade.

how hard/long is it to remove the steering rack?

 

I'd also like to know this as I'm going to have to replace my tie rods soon.

 

Well for me, it took me right at an hour and a half to remove this. Probably another hour and a half to get a new one installed and buttoned up. But that’s because I’ve done it a few times and nothing is rusted. I’d block out about 6 hours for your first time doing it

Red trd valve caps I grabbed off Amazon to give my wheels a bit of pop. Counting the days until they are stolen.



Then started putting together what will be our offroad/activity trailer with the gf. I can already see this becoming a money pit.

 

Why not just use an empty coke/pepsi bottle and catch the oil in it?

Bro do you have an install thread for that bad boy? Could you fit a larger air freshener or would you have to do a vent mount chop to avoid rubbing?

 

Oh I paid a professional to install that. No way I was tackling that myself.

 

Smart man, pretty sure Toyota warranty doesn't cover that if you goof it

 

I know my limits.

 

My DC without those plastic bins behind the seat is far more noisy than any other pickup cab I've been in my entire life, including countless number of trucks with zero insulation/sound deadening materials and single wall behind the seat. It's not even close. The amount of wind noise is incredible. Old Chevy's, Ford's, Toyota's, etc are far quieter.

 

Is that for metalic or ceramic pads?

 

I just replaced a couple of aftermarket and none aftermarket parts that came in my truck

Headlights
Rear Mudguards
Tailgate
Tomorrow probably gonna keep replacing other parts if I have time.
