Been off the dirt on 2 wheels for awhile

I sold my Raptor last fall to help pay for the wife's wedding ring. Her cousin and uncle both have dirt bikes and go to Colorado every year to ride the trails. They have been after me for the last couple of years to buy a bike to go with them. I got the go ahead to start looking for one.

What is the best brand? (I know everyone has an opinion) I had an old XR80 when I was a kid and didn't have a problem with it. I have always liked Honda but they seem kinda pricey these days. I would prefer one that had a headlight. I know for sure I want a 4stroke for the trails.

Looking to stay under $2,000 (if that is possible)

Get an XR400 The XR's are bullet proof. Great trail bikes, you can find some that are street legal too.

 

How heavy is the XR 400?

 

How about a Yamaha TTR 250 ? Reliable?

 

here's my question: did you sell the raptor to free up some money for the ring AND replace the raptor with another vehicle?..or did you sell the raptor and put it all down for the ring? i wince in anticipation of your answer!

 

Very reliable but you will outgrow it very fast.

I would look for a yamaha wr250. It is a great trail bike and has plenty of power/suspension to keep you happy for a very long time.

 

It would be the second. It was a 2002 and I had rode the crap out of it, didn't get all that much for it.

Now I am not the "know it all" on bikes and dont claim to be and I actually just bought mine a few months ago and I love it!! It is a 2008 Honda CRF250r 4-stroke. I added the black wheels, new plastics and graphics and some other little odd and ends I did to it. Again, I've only been riding for a couple months but I love this bike, thats just my opinion of course.

 

ttr has trail suspension (it sucks lol) and a very mild power plant while the WR has much better suspension and an actual motor that will keep you happy power wise.

It looks like the WR is liquid cooled also and has a kick start. I read that the TTR only has electric start. Basically the TTR were built for ladies and the WR is for males.

 

i have a kx 125 2 stroke. has alot of power and never let me down. But by what you say you want i think a wr 250 fits you perfect. I would check craigslist for a used one.

 

lol pretty much. Im pretty sure wr's are electric start as well though.
