    Well said.

Using myself as an example to others:

    1) READ THE ENTIRE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE YOU BEGIN

    2) VISIBLY INSPECT ALL INCLUDED PARTS AND COMPONENTS

It does if the wire is already close to being undersized.

Dude, half your post here is bragging about your experience like that means any more (or less) than an engineering degree. Might want to step off that high horse for a minute. I've met plenty of people who've been working in the field for decades that I wouldn't let near my truck. I think I'll add you to my list. Most car audio people I've met *always* opt for the biggest wire that's practical.

But please, do go on about how your 7000+ amplifiers give you the authority to say that under-sizing wires is a good idea.

Maybe I'm being pedantic..... What exactly is "overamperage".

Physics. Don't use a fuse rated for less than load written on the side of your thing.

Fuse has a whole lot to do with wire size.

Edit, 75% of the advice in this thread is nonsensical. Fires? Death? DC voltage surges? Huh?

    You should start over.
This is DC so wire length matters a lot. You want a good branch circuit right back to your battery or a nearby aux panel if you have one. Fuse the + at 30 amps at the battery end, but run #8 if you can. Test it before you fish the wire. Technically you can run #10, but you goal is to reduce line loss so the resistance does not increase (leading to the current increase blowing your fuses). With the #8 in place you can tap its reserve when/if needed.

The wire is undersized by 3 feet in length. If you think that will make the slightest difference then you are indeed an engineer and not in the real world just like most engineers.

As far as bragging, you did it first so go look in the mirror bud.

Lastly, you once again you proved you really are an engineer because you can't even count: "half your post is bragging about...". As far as I'm concerned you proved my point that engineers truly are the worst.

Better than I could write it, nice job.

Most of these guys replying are absolutely comical in their replies, thinking a 5 amp fuse change from an undersized fuse to a proper sized fuse on a 17' 12 gauge wire is gonna burn the truck to the ground LMAO!!!

The guy could put a 60 amp fuse in and the fuse would still blow before a fire would occur in that scenario.

By the way I'm not most installers and it's not close in the slightest bit, however you are a very typical engineer.

Would you mind quoting where I bragged about anything relating to anything about my education or experience?

You know, just so we all know you're talking to the right person here.

You are so confused you don't even know who the fuck you're talking to.

But I'm glad you're not like most installers. That's nice.
