Wow, I would say you were due for a cleaning. By the look of it, I'd probably do a coolant flush as well. Hope the cleaning fixes your issue.

Thank you, I learned about it from this video.
I’ll be using your video on how to do that as well.

But I can print out a write up take it to the shop.

No other formats can be used without lots of money being spent.

If my throttle body comes off a new IAC is going on With the idea the old one will get cleaned and look pretty.

What really happens is it gets misplaced and thrown away after a few years

Cleaned mt TB & IAC assembly last Friday. I checked 3 local dealerships for the TB gasket and none had them in stock...wtf? I made the mistake of getting one from an auto-parts store (O'Reilly's) and wound up with a vacuum leak and CEL. Cleaned up the original piece and reinstalled and the truck runs fine.

To be fair, the IAC valve gasket was also purchased from the same place and it's fine. I used most of a can of TB cleaning spray and managed to get lots of carbon out of the valve with a new toothbrush and Q-Tips lol. I did read somewhere about actually disassembling the part, which I considered, but upon closer inspection noted that the end plate that the shaft of the valve has slotted screws that mount it to the main body. In other words, it appears to be indexed and this is something I wouldn't want to risk screwing up.

Can confirm that this indeed works (not necessary in my case, I had enough elbow grease to break them loose). Securing it with a single bolt should be sufficient to prevent any movement.

Big Tim, do you know what the resistance readings are for the 2004 IAC? I’m getting different answers from different sources.

Do you have a digital copy of the factory service manual?

There is a sticky thread at the top of the 1st gen section where you can find links to download it.

The FSM specifies two ways to inspect the IAC for the 2 & 3RZ:
    upload_2023-12-29_16-4-44.png

    And
    upload_2023-12-29_16-6-58.png

    Neither specify a resistance.

The FSM pages for the 5VZ do have an inspection that includes a resistance value:
    upload_2023-12-29_16-10-27.png

But I don't know if the 5VZ test works for the 2.4/2.7 motor, or even if the IAC valves for the 2.4/2.7 and 3.4 are the same or not.

Anyone know how to go about cleaning an IAC for a 2003-2004 5VZ-FE?
