Hi all, I inherited my dads old 2000 Tacoma base 5lug. The ball joints are shot. I was able to replace the upper ball joint, inner, outer tie rods and end links.

I was able to press the LBJ out of the bracket of the LCA, but can’t figure out how to remove the ball joint itself from the spindle. The dust shield is covering the top nuts.

Do I have my to actually disassemble the entire hub. I’ve searched for hours on the forums but no one talks about to remove the LBJ from the spindle on the 5 lug tacoma.

I’ve read that post already. It’s for 2nd gen which has different LBJ than the first gen.

I’ve already pressed out the joint from the LCA. The problem is the LBJ is connected to the knuckle with x2 17mm bolts with nuts. I.e I need two wrenches but the top nuts are covered by the shield connected the hub.

Not having a 5-lug, this may not be helpful, but I found this video that seems to show what you're asking for... Looks like the bolts on the LBJ just detach from the bottom
