What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I think Fox also makes an affordable rear 2.0 shock for up to 2" or so of lift... @Kwikvette has 'em I believe

 

I’ve got the Icon 2.0 rear shocks without resis and All-Pro leaf springs paired with the Kings up front. I like the setup. It handles a little weight too. The bumper I just put on is 130 lbs., and I got a Leer camper shell.

Yep, that's gear oil from the transfer case.

The seal you'll want to replace is Transfer Case - Front Drive Shaft Inner Oil Seal (90311-41012). You'll also need new stake nut, since once you stake it (and unstake it), Toyota recommends new - Transfer Case - Front Drive Shaft Stake Nut (90179-22016). I've only found these at the dealer, but they are only a few bucks.

 

Ok, I’m thinking the HD yellow Bilstiens I have tho were probably not designed for running on a lifted back end tho and maybe I’m loosing the full travel of them?

I'm wondering what caused it since the front output shaft rarely moves. I'm thinking breathers got plugged, so I took apart my center console today. Breather was caked in mud.

 

Sold the tonneau cover today. Possibly picking up a toolbox for the truck tomorrow. Just can't decide which one I wanna get.

 

Seems a few people are having transfer case leak problems... I have a Tcase seep as well. Just ordered all the seals and stake nuts today.

I posted this in my 4x swap thread... but maybe it'll help here too.

During my 4x swap my intention was to replace the input and output seals on the Transfer Case before I installed it. My local Toyota Dealership didn't do me any favors when I went to them to order the seals. They got me duplicates of one of the seals and the other seal they gave me was wrong all together. So, I decided to roll the dice and just go with the Tcase as is, and install it.

Since the swap, my Tcase has started seeping oil. I'm not 100% sure if it's the seals or if it's the fact that I didn't allow the gasket sealer to cure enough before I torqued the case back together (when I had it apart to do the work to install the twin sticks).

Since the gasket sealer is a question, I'm going to have to pull the Tcase to re-seal it. If I'm going to have to pull the Tcase, I'm going to go ahead and replace all the input and output seals. I sat down yesterday and figured out which seals I'm going to need... and was able to actually find the part numbers.

Rear output seal = 36115C - Part Number 90311-41007 (Replaced by 90311-41020)
Rear shaft seal = 33309D - Part Number 90312-23001
Rear stake nut = 36104D - Part Number 90179-22016

 

Since you're running with an inch of lift in the rear, I'd suggest you get Bilstein 5100's based on these part numbers -

These are meant for an inch of lift per Bilstein. You'll find another set of 5100's correctly listed for our trucks but with a different part number; those are meant for a lift exceeding 1".

I would only ever suggest Fox 2.0's though if someone wants a firmer shock than the 5100's. It's only when I put weight in the back (bed rack, roof top tent, tiregate, bumper, sliders) that the ride felt perfect on trails.

Since one of my Fox shocks blew a seal, and having removed my tent, I'm running the 5100's again and loving it.

 

Did some tinkering on @RobertsT4R today after work. Not big progress, but progress none the less.


Cut some @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc super bumps down to 1.75 inch (tall). Mounted them on some 1/8th (thick) stainless steel plates.

I've been running this set up on my truck for over 6 months and it seems to be running (and holding up) perfect. The bumps have stayed in good shape. I have just enough travel before bump, and they haven't cracked like full sized super bumps tend to do on our 1st gens.


Also... more progress to note. @TOP TACO was nice enough to pick up a replacement dash board, for us, while he's over in Reno... Roberts dash is blown from air bags being deployed.

Thanks man! I ended up just ordering a set from Amazon for like $83 because i had a bad experience with trying to order through CARID. The ones i bought were called "ACANII" and they came with the turn signal lights as well. Since the install i havent had any moisture build up at all. So far i am happy with them.
