Log time owner, but too busy with life and work to keep up with anything for the past few years. I was going through some things in my garage, and came across a bed extender that has sat on a shelf for almost 8 years. It is a Versagate. Don't remember how much I paid for it, and it has a broken latch you can see in one of the pictures. I am in Madison. Anyone interested? Make me a reasonable offer.

    Which one you have?

Im no expert welder by any means but have maybe 100 hours on a HF 125 flux and another 100 on aluminum with a spool gun.

I would turn wire speed up a bit and move a bit faster because it looks like there isn’t much of a bead there and it looks a bit hot, but someone will probably tell me that is the wrong thing to do.

What also helped me a ton especially welding thin aluminum (thick steel is more forgiving for me becuase I can move slower) is before each weld act like you are doing the weld without pulling the trigger if MIG to get some practice. Also I recommend getting some of the Lincoln .030 flux core wire if that is what you are using. It is way better than the HF stuff

Jump into the Anything Welding thread and ask their advice as well. Many of them work as welders so they could offer good advice. I built my whole rear bumper with that welder. It is definitely capable. If I weld both sides of a 1/4 plate it bends over before breaking a weld.

I am not a super good welder by any means, but I think have gotten to the point of pretty descent. All YouTube / forum taught as there is unlimited information out there.

Flux core welds are hard/impossible to make look pretty and you can’t see the weld puddle to manipulate it very easily.

Are you pulling or pushing the puddle?

The weld does look cold, so maybe turning up the welder a bit will help. Then playing with the wire feed speed accordingly.

I am pulling. Yea I’m still playing with wire speed! I will try to dial in settings. Just want to get good enough to do small welding projects right now!

Mornin' gents. Good news is the weekend is dry! Finally! Bad news is that I'll be one year older Sunday, but still look younger than some of you. It's okay, keep your head up. :D

    From AlabamaWX

PERIODS OF RAIN: Wet weather returns to Alabama today; look for periods of rain through tonight. Temperatures will hold in the 40s all day over the northern half of the state, so the air will be cold and stable and there is no risk of severe thunderstorms. Rain amounts will be around one inch over the next 24 hours.

The main rain mass will exit the state very early tomorrow, but clouds will linger through the day. And, as an upper trough swings through, some patches of light rain or drizzle are possible tomorrow afternoon, but nothing like the widespread rain we will deal with today. Temperatures will remain in the 40s over the northern third of Alabama tomorrow, with 50s to the south.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The weekend looks dry for Alabama; with a mix of sun and clouds we expect highs in the 50-55 degree range Saturday and Sunday. Clouds will increase Sunday night with a feature moving through the Gulf of Mexico; this could squeeze out some light rain over far South Alabama early Monday, but moisture will be limited and most likely most of the state will remain dry.

NEXT WEEK: The next rain possibility comes along Wednesday; global models are not in very good agreement concerning the details of the system, but it doesn’t look like a severe weather setup one way or another. More rain is possible by Friday night or Saturday (January 31/February 1). Temperatures through the week will be close to seasonal averages for late January in Alabama with highs mostly in the mid to upper 50s.

LONG RANGE: We seeing signals of below average temperatures for the eastern and southern U.S. as we get into February based on pattern recognition and teleconnections. Winter is far from over. Below is the CPC outlook for the period February 1-14.

ON THIS DATE IN 2012: An EF-3 tornado tore through Center Point and Clay during the pre-dawn hours, killing one person and injuring many others. A total of 231 homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed. The tornado damage path was approximately 15.5 miles long and was 880 yards wide at its widest point. Earlier that morning, an EF-2 moved through western Jefferson County, killing one person near Oak Grove.

ON THIS DATE IN 1969: An F4 tornado cut a 120-mile long path from Jefferson through Copiah, Simpson, Smith, Scott, and Newton Counties in Mississippi, killing 32 and injuring 241 others. Property damage was estimated at $2 million. An inbound Delta Airlines aircraft reported a hook echo on its scope with this storm.

ON THIS DATE IN 1940: A total of 9.5? of snow fell at Birmingham, in the midst of the city’s longest cold wave. It is the second largest daily snow total on record, surpassed only by the “Blizzard of 93” when 13 inches fell.

I am running aluminum skids on my truck for weight savings and they have held up very well over the past few years. I think it was 40lbs savings over the steel ones. I also plan on getting an aluminum front bumper in the near future.

Yea i think well gusseted aluminum skids are good enough for me. I have RCI front skid and its held up so far. Few deep cuts but nothing that would make me question them. I think alunum is the way to go unless you just plan on dropping on rocks with the full weight of your truck all the time.

So guys, it looks like I might be out of wheeling and camping for the foreseeable future.

Two years ago I was having back and neck pain and numbness in my fingers. The doctor said my spine was ok, called me "multi-symptomatic," and gave me a steroid/cortisone shot in my neck. The pain went away for exactly two years and came back with a vengeance two weeks ago. I went back to the same facility last Friday and saw a new doctor. He more or less told me the first doctor I saw was an idiot and showed me my MRI from two years ago. I had moderate degeneration in my disc between 3 and 4 vertebrae and severe degeneration between 6 and 7. He said that he guessed 6 and 7 was more or less bone on bone now.

I am going to get another MRI and steroid/cortisone shot to immediately help with the pain and then I have an appointment with a surgeon to start talking about options.

Needless to say I won't be bouncing around in a 4X4 or sleeping in a tent anytime soon.

I am pretty scared. I have never met anyone that had neck surgery and made a full recovery. I am 38 years old, have a 2 year old son, and I am facing a potentially debilitating situation that could stop me from working. Prayers are appreciated.

Try some traction. I have a buddy with the exact same condition as yours. Traction and seeing a chiropractor has really helped with the symptoms of his fused vertebrae. Hope all gets well man, not being able to wheel really sucks!
